Ingredients, calories, even the labels are identical. So what's the difference ,and why was the one on the right cheaper to buy?

Marketing. Difference in labels and packaging and nothing more.

one is for baristas and oatmilk lovers alike, and the other is not. /s
gruftwerk
I bet the container is cheaper for them so it costs less

One is the barista blend, and one is for baristas and oatmilk lovers alike.
(If everything is identical, it really probably is just marketing. Coffee people will spend extra for fancy products, they’re probably counting on coffee people buying it cause it says barista blend)

Marketing but also maybe the ingredients. The barista one might have ingredients added to make it easier to froth.

The all blue left one is the best oat milk I have ever used, both for steaming and taste wise!
thisremindsmeofbacon
left one normally sold to cafes to use – hypothetically it will be formulated to steam better and froth more through a steam wand.
I say hypothetically because they might have just packaged the same product two different ways.
If you really want to know, you’ll have to ask Califia Farms rather than reddit.

I’d read the ingredient list. One may have something in it to improve texture when steaming it, while the other can be steamed just-okay, or dumped in with breakfast cereal.
Likely they’re just different production runs. One may be optimized for bulk packaging and distribution by restaurant supply chains, and the other for consumer shelving?

Looks like a rebrand. If you bought at same place, could be a price hike along with the rebrand. Although most retailers will increase price with new and existing inventory, unless it has a different barcode. Pretty common practice.
clueless-albatross
Looks to be repackaging, check the ingredients and see if they have their products on their website

There’s no difference. The Barista Oat is Califia’s open market presentation and Cafe oat is the same item in Costco’s exclusive presentation. Source: I manage the brand for LATAM.

As I said in the post, the ingredients, calories, and 3/4 of the package are the same
illtemperedintrovert
aren’t the flatter boxes shelf stable and the one on the left needs to stay cold?
CarpenterRadiant4494
Its a rebrand probably

Maybe just marketing doing some A/B testing would be my guess

Barista blend foams up better to me but other than that, both taste good

From experience, the one on the left pours way better. My current job uses the one on the right now and I hate it tbh lol

Could be that the one on the right is a Tetrapak?
MiniaturePhilosopher
The one on the left is a better shape and size for an undercounter cafe fridge. A narrower but deeper carton is ideal so that you can shove more milks in while seeing what they are. This shape is *usually* sold wholesale, but it for sure pops up on the retail market whenever they need to fulfill an order. But it’s meant to be sold mainly to cafes, workplaces, and restaurants – usually in a case of either 8 or 12. It’s been a few years, I don’t remember the exact case size.
The one on the right is the same product, but sold to grocery stores. It’s mainly going to into home fridges, so the proportions don’t matter as much and the carton is easier and cheaper to produce. And obviously it’s meant for individual sale, instead of by the case.
Short story: same product. Professional one is meant to save space, consumer one is made with a cheaper carton without the same space constraints.

The one on the right is old packaging. Cheaper to purchaser to run through stock before the expiration date. They are both shelf stable, so no need to refrigerate until the seal is broken.
The square packaging is what the industry expects to see now (ie: Oatly). It’s a choice for certain brands to use the alternate shelf-stable packaging (ie: Minor Figures.) The more rectangular is used more for bone broth & stocks.

Read the infromation side? With recipe, ingredients etc??

If anything, I wonder if fat content is the difference? I know that is the difference between the barista blend and “normal” ones. Likely nothing though!

The barista blend had oil emulsified into the milk. That oil will prevent separation of the milk when you add espresso. If you add a light roast espresso or coffee, the higher acid content in the coffee will separate the milk that is the non barista blend.

A versão barista é muito boa se você pretende pelo menos aquecer o leite. Geralmente contém emulsificantes, óleos vegetais, tornando um corpo “mais gorduroso”, o que deixa o leite mais aveludado pro latte art
MissionMail1173
Probably the bottle lid/shape. Lid might be easier to get on and off, and be easier to pour in a rush. When I was a barista, I would prefer all milks to have a standard shape so they can be packed easily.

I’ve use both and they steam pretty much the same. The only noticeable difference is that the one on the left has a seal tab that you have to pull out every time you open a new one. The right one doesn’t and is just a twist off when opening. It makes a huge difference in workflow when working at a busy cafe. I have a preference for the right simply because of how easy it is to open. Often the tabs for the right one will rip off making it difficult to open.

I work as a GM for a small chain and have used both. I found the “cafe” one just a touch more sour compared to the barista blend.
queencorgo
Barista blend is said to have a higher fat content, which would make it heat and foam better for those who like hot lattes or capps. I can’t imagine the difference being noticeable in a cold beverage, but I think technically the extra fat gives it a texture more akin to dairy so there could be a difference if you have discerning taste.
