Ingredients so I’m following the sub rules:

– nails or staples

– new banneton, deceptively innocuous

– the palm of my hand

Process:

  1. Clean and prep new banneton for use because idk where this thing has been and I don’t want booger dust on my bread

  2. Brush it

  3. Flip over, smack bottom of basket really hard

  4. Cuss and bleed.

Your description made me LOL, but I am sorry about your hand!!

That looks like the quality of some can baskets I got from Amazon, bad stapling/nails and unevenly assembled. Very variable in quality. Aside from your blood inducing experience, they are baskets suited only for use with a liner.

I am soon getting some cotton rope baskets one of my kids ordered for me. Hoping they might be more reliable than the quality of the cane baskets.

Best of luck on healing. Also report the product injury to the manufacturer, and wherever you bought the baskets.

Judging by social media, 90% of all bannetons are made in the same factory in China.

I have the same one and have done the same thing. I inspected my others and found a couple more I had to snip off with wire cutters.

They’re a bit more spendy but I really like the “bulka” wood pulp banneton. So sorry it drew blood!

What’s the baker’s percentage on the blood?
