Rice is a staple ingredient in many of our diets.
It’s affordable, reasonably nutritious and boasts an impressive shelf life, meaning you can always keep an emergency packet tucked away in the cupboard.
Yet despite most of us cooking it fairly regularly, many will admit to still getting it wrong far more often than we’d care to acknowledge.
A top chef has now unveiled a secret technique that could banish the days of burnt saucepans and soggy meals for good.
Australia’s Monty Koludrovic shared his expertise on 9Honey’s podcast What the F is For Dinner
He claims the secret to perfectly fluffy rice lies in washing the grains thoroughly before cooking them.
However, a quick rinse simply won’t cut it — if you want to do it properly, you’ll need to wash it approximately 30 times. Yes, 30 TIMES.
Monty says: “When you wash it well it’s just amazing
“They say to wash it 30 times.
“If you picture the starch being microscopic grains of stickiness… as they absorb water, they don’t have the ability to stand up to pressure so their structure is pasty.
“Whereas the starch in the rice helps it stand up and be fluffy.”
Now all that remains is figuring out how to get the portions right…
