Chef Son Jong-won, who made his name known as Netflix’s entertainment show “Black and White Chef 2,” stepped up as the general chef for a state dinner in Korea and France.

On the 2nd, President Lee Jae Myung and his wife invited French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife to Sangchunjae at the Blue House for a friendly dinner.

The state dinner was overseen by Chef Son Jong-won, who is the only Michelin star in the Korean and Western sectors in Korea. Chef Son introduced six menus that combine Korean and French cuisine.

The appetizer was “Japchae Tartlet” topped with rainbow garnish, followed by “Samgye Rulad,” which reinterpreted Korean health food samgyetang as a French meat dish.

The main dish was served with “Korean Beef Milfeuille” with abalone after stacking thinly sliced Korean beef choy tips and baking them in layers. In particular, Chef Son served to explain the planning intention of the dish to the guest.

For dessert, “Baked Sweet Potato Crepe,” filled with buckwheat crepe and sweet potato mousse, was served in a traditional Korean mother-of-pearl box, and tea (茶) was prepared with camellia kkumsal tea.

In addition, for France, which has a special love for wine, one type of white and red wine and one type of traditional wine were prepared as dinner drinks to accompany the dinner.

President Lee and his wife also delivered a special gift to President Macron. It was a modern reinterpretation of the “Banhwa” sent by Emperor Gojong to the French President during the diplomatic relations between Korea and France in 1886.

In addition, Bridget Macron, known as a K-pop lover, has prepared signed CDs from BTS (BTS), Stray Kids, and G-Dragon, and a set of Western tableware made with Korean ceramic technology.

The leaders of the two countries will hold a summit on the 3rd to discuss ways to cooperate in high-tech and core fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), hydrogen technology, and the space industry, including nuclear power plant cooperation. In an article in Le Figaro, President Lee stressed that “cooperation between the two countries should go beyond simple partnerships to strategic coordination for resilience.”
