President Lee Jae Myung treated French President Emmanuel Macron to authentic Korean food during his state visit to Korea on the 3rd. After serving Korean and French dishes together at the dinner the previous day, he continued his “table diplomacy.”
More than 140 people from all walks of life attended the luncheon. In particular, Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong, Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Eui-sun, CJ Group Chairman Sohn Kyung-sik, Hanjin Group Chairman Cho Won-tae, Hanjin Group Chairman Ryu Jin-jin, Hotel Shilla President Lee Bu-jin and Small and Medium Business Association Chairman Kim Ki-moon attended. K-pop group Stray Kids member Felix and actor Jun Ji-hyun also joined.
President Macron said “hello” in Korean while exploring President Lee’s welcoming speech, followed by shouting “for the good” in Korean in his toast, drawing laughter and applause from the participants.
One of the appetizers was tricolored wheat rolls. While expressing Korea’s unique ssam culture, it contains the meaning of freedom, equality, and philanthropy that symbolizes France. Earlier, President Lee greeted President Macron while wearing a tie with red, white and blue, the French flag, to express his respect for France. Mrs. Kim Hea Kyung visited the National Museum of Korea and shared friendships with Mrs. Brigitte Macron.
Meanwhile, President Lee’s positive assessment of job performance was 67 percent, the highest since his inauguration, which was recorded two weeks ago. According to Gallup Korea’s survey of 1,001 voters aged 18 or older (response rate of 12.3%) nationwide from the 31st of last month to the 2nd of this month, 67% of the respondents said they were “doing well.” This is a 2 percentage point increase from the previous week and is the same as the 67% recorded in the survey two weeks ago. The survey was conducted through a telephone interview using random sampling of wireless phone virtual numbers, and the sampling error is ±3.1 percentage points to the 95% confidence level.
