NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A new, vibrant neighborhood Mediterranean restaurant recently opened its doors in Lakeshore this month.
Owned by restaurateur Emily Shaya and James Beard Award-winning chef Alon Shaya, Safta’s Table brings a comforting, relaxed Mediterranean dining experience for customers to enjoy.
Safta means “grandmother” in Hebrew, and the restaurant wants to exude the atmosphere that being able to have a meal here is like “dining at your grandmother’s house.”
The restaurant focuses on “healthful dining options” with fresh, sustainable ingredients. The restaurant’s cuisine incorporates familiar flavors and dishes from the Shaya’s other restaurant, Saba, which is a Middle Eastern and Israeli restaurant located Uptown.

Additionally, the food plays an interesting spin on staple Mediterranean dishes, including hummus variations from Classic Tahini to Spiced Lamb Ragu and having a Bright Green Falafel.
Safta’s Table serves breakfast through dinner and its versatility ranges from a nice meal with friends to a quick stop-in for a pastry before you head to work.
“We’ve structured the menu at Safta’s Table around flexibility, allowing our guests to mix and match with sauces and shareable items, and add-on things like a crispy potato latke or Baharat snickerdoodle to round out their meal,” Alon Shaya said.

“We’re excited about the possibilities that come from the all-day counter service model, especially the way it lends itself to approachability and deliciousness.”
Safta’s Table is located at 129 Allen Toussaint Blvd. and is open daily from 7 a.m.-8 p.m. on Sunday through Thursday and 7 a.m.-9 p.m. on Saturdays.
