What do Billie Eilish, Martha Stewart, and a climate scientist have in common? They’re all cooking dinner together on PBS. The show will be hosted by Maggie Baird, an activist who is mom to Eilish and FINNEAS. She founded Support + Feed, a non-profit organization that combats the climate crisis and fights for food justice. She’s stepping into the spotlight with a show and a mission.

What Is ‘Climate Kitchen’ and Why Is Everyone Talking About It?

Climate Kitchen is being developed with WETA, a major PBS public media station in Washington, D.C., and it is set to premiere in 2027. According to Q99.7 Atlanta, it will be part cooking show, part lifestyle program, and part docuseries. That three-part hybrid format sounds fun and inviting to watch for everyone even if they don’t like to cook or aren’t passionate about protecting the environment.

This series will focus on simple, affordable plant-based meals that are accessible for nearly everyone. It will also look at how the food choices we make each day can have a big impact on the environment. I think Climate Kitchen sounds like a refreshing take on eating as a vegan.

Maggie Baird Is More Than Billie Eilish’s Mom — She’s a Climate Powerhouse

In addition to being an activist, Maggie Baird has achieved a lot as an actress and a singer-songwriter. She made her TV debut in Another World, reported Seventeen, and she appeared in such shows as Friends, Murphy Brown, L.A. Law, and Picket Fences. She was also in the 1985 revival of The Iceman Cometh on Broadway, and she also acted in feature films.

Baird is also an environmental activist, and she has been doing serious, meaningful work in the climate and food equity space for years. She founded Support+Feed, and now she will merge her passions as the host and executive producer of Climate Kitchen.

In the announcement for the show, Baird said, “I am excited to work with WETA to address a critical issue of our time: Finding ways to live more responsibly and being a steward of the natural world that surrounds us.”

She added in part, “Climate Kitchen is about embracing progress over perfection, debunking the myths around affordability and investment of time, and showing how small, simple behavior shifts can build toward lasting difference in our own health and the  health of our planet. Plant-based food is not the only solution to climate change, but there is no solution without it.”

The Guest List Might Surprise You, and It Goes Way Beyond Billie Eilish

For anyone who has followed the careers of FINNEAS and Billie Eilish closely, their appearance on Climate Kitchen is not a surprise. Both are dedicated to sustainability and conscious living. Eilish has always been outspoken and not afraid to speak her mind about animal rights and climate change. In fact, she even partnered with major arenas during her Hit Me Hard and Soft tour  to make food menus 100% plant-based during her tour stops, reported VegNews. So, it’s only natural that she would be a part of this important show for the environment and plant-based living.

If the Eilish-O’Connell family alone were not enough to make you anticipate this show, the rest of the Climate Kitchen guest list certainly will be. Martha Stewart and Blue Zones expert Dan Buettner will appear on this series. Other guests include climate justice activist Xiye Bastida; actor and Cyklar founder and creative director Claudia Sulewski; renowned oceanographer and Mission Blue founder Sylvia Earle; and many more.

PBS and WETA: ‘Climate Kitchen’ Found the Perfect Home on Public Media

In an era of streaming wars and algorithm-driven content, I’m excited to see Climate Kitchen landing on PBS. WETA is a big public media organization, and Climate Kitchen is being produced as part of its public health-focused multi-platform initiative Well Beings, which is focusing on addressing critical health needs in America through platform-agnostic storytelling.

Previous Well Beings productions have tackled youth mental illness, caregiving, and genetics. They were well-done and handled with sensitivity, so I’m optimist about Climate Kitchen. It has potential to be a really important show.
