A suspect was taken into custody after a brush fire burned 25 acres near a vineyard and winery in the Temecula area on Sunday, April 5.
Firefighters responded around 2:30 p.m. to the Serena fire in the 32700 block of Rancho California Road in unincorporated Temecula in dry brush to the rear of the Callaway Vineyard & Winery, where the fire was initially estimated between five and seven acres but was spreading at a dangerous rate, according to the Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.

Firefighters stopped the wildfire’s forward progress just before 4 p.m., Cal Fire/Riverside County said.
Deputies with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office also responded and took a suspect into custody with help from a Cal Fire arson investigator, the Sheriff’s Department said. Identifying information about the suspect was not immediately released.
The investigation was ongoing.
No evacuation orders or warnings were issued.
No injuries were reported, and no damage was reported to any homes or nearby businesses.
Callaway thanked firefighters for their work to contain the blaze on Instagram.
“Words cannot express how grateful we are for their dedication, skills and commitment to keeping our community safe!” the winery wrote.
Callaway said it will remain closed the remainder of the day and reopen for normal hours Monday.
