Hey guys! I decorated my first ever set of cookies and i’m quite pleased with how they turned out but I have a few questions so I can hopefully improve on my next set.

  1. My outline is very visible even after flooding, how can i avoid this?

  2. When I’m outlining, it’s always obvious where I started because there’s a small peak of icing where i’ve lifted the bag once i’ve gone full circle (I hope this makes sense). How can I make the outline look more seamless?

  3. My icing looks like it has little dimples in places. Am I just not flooding enough?

These look amazing for a first try. Great job. Honestly, practice is all you need. Yes, more flooding will remove the dimples. You flood more icing than you think! Also, are you using a scribe? When you end and there’s that little “nipple” (for lack of a better word lol) you can take your scribe and lightly poke it from the side. You are doing great!! Feel awesome about these.

These look really good for a first try! For your first question about the outlines, the outlines can be hidden better by flooding right away and not letting that outline dry hard and that way the outline will kind of merge or melt into the flood and be less visible. You can also help disguise it by almost pushing flood icing up on top of the outline. Take a look at this linked video. This decorator shows some tips you you can use for several of your questions. She pulls the icing into the center of the cookie at the end of the outlining so you don’t end up with a bump, you can also stop squeezing right before you get to the end of your outline so you don’t have a buildup. Her video shows how you can kind of push the icing up on top of the outline, and she floods immediately after doing that outline.
