Periana is planning one of its most iconic events. Organisers have lined up two days packed with activities to celebrate the Verdial extra virgin olive oil that defines the area’s heritage and gastronomy. Declared a tourist interest by Malaga Provincial Council, the festival draws crowds eager to immerse themselves in local traditions rooted in the surrounding centenary olive groves.
Programme kicks off with tastings and scenic walks on Saturday
Early risers start Saturday, April 11, with a miller’s breakfast at the San Isidro Cooperative from 9.30am. Participants then embark on a guided route among Periana‘s monumental olive trees at 10.30am. Fans of liquid gold (olive oil) can learn tasting techniques during an initiation session at 12.30pm in the María Zambrano Hall. Sabor a Malaga presents a show-cooking demonstration shortly after. The evening brings live performances from the Ballix Duo, DJ sessions and the Melodía Orchestra in Plaza Alfonso XII.
Sunday delivers traditional music, awards and paella delights
Sunday, 12 April, opens with welcome gift distribution at 10am in the Day Centre Square, where free olive oil gifts delight early arrivals. Another miller’s breakfast follows in Plaza Alfonso XII, accompanied by Verdiales folk music from the San Isidro group and dance performances by Abraham Ortiz’s groups. Tomás García Serrano delivers the opening address at 12.30pm before the Olivo Verdial 2026 awards ceremony.
