A few weeks ago, we had a sub-zero (Celsius) temperature drop in Saint-Émilion. The buds are already breaking so it's super critical to preserve the warm temperature. Otherwise, winemakers can lose their harvest.

I couldn't miss it. Jumped into the car and drove there in the middle of the night to see it with my own eyes.

Stressful, but man is it beautiful 😍

Always amazes me how much effort goes into saving a crop.

It only takes one cold night at the wrong time and that’s it.

Has there been a proper cold snap over there recently, or was this just a one-off night?

I always think this is so cool to see aerial shots like this but it’s so nerve wracking that it needs to be done.

Ah yes introducing a faint smell of petrol and smokiness to the wine. 🤣

Does this practice have risk of smoke taint?

It’s one thing hearing about how they use the candles, but the photos are awesome thanks for sharing
