People say New Orleanians are always planning their next restaurant visit, even when they’re already out eating somewhere. It’s true: many of us have our own constantly shifting, far from exhaustive lists of favorites and hot new openings. But these are the restaurants we come to (and recommend) the most.

Since New Orleans is a port city, we celebrate other cultures’ cuisines while still honoring our own. In addition to traditional New Orleans food, like gumbo, po’boys, and crawfish etouffee, you’ll find lots of Haitian, Senegalese, Ethiopian, Vietnamese, French, and so much more.

So whether you’re grabbing some beignets or a Vietnamese coffee for breakfast, planning a big group dinner in the French Quarter, or trying bananas foster at the classic New Orleans restaurant that invented it, there’s something in this guide for everybody.
