I still remember the joy of opening my lunch box in lower school to discover a Swiss Roll or Nutty Buddy tucked inside. Forget the turkey sandwich; dessert was always first. While I don’t frequent the snack cake and cookie aisles much these days, I could never forget about Little Debbie.
Now there are so many more options than what was available when I was growing up. The company hasn’t stopped pumping out delicious new treats with modern flavor combinations. In fact, the brand launched new soft-baked chocolate chip and peanut butter cookies just this Tuesday.

I wasn’t able to find these new additions in stores quite yet, but I was able to find three of the brand’s other new or returning spring treats that hit shelves in the past couple of months: Boston Creme Pie, Strawberry Delights Soft Cookies, and Mother’s Day Lemon Cakes. This is my ranking of Little Debbie’s recent creations, from worst to best.

3. Strawberry Delights Soft Cookies
I was super excited to try these strawberry jam-filled soft cookies, but they let me down a bit. I love strawberry jam, but I didn’t really get much strawberry flavor from the filling. I couldn’t quite place what the taste was, but my mom said she was getting a little bit of banana.
The texture of this treat was fantastic, though. The cookie itself was soft and fluffy, almost like a Fig Newton. So I would be super interested in trying out their new chocolate chip and peanut butter soft cookies if their textures come anything close to this one. The smiley-face cutout was also an adorable touch.

2. Mother’s Day Lemon Cakes
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed these lemon cakes. Normally I am a bit wary of lemon flavoring, but this cake wasn’t too sweet. The white creme that is sandwiched between two layers of lemon-flavored cake also helped to tone down the citrus flavors and add some moisture to the cake.
My favorite part was how soft and tender the cake itself was. It’s fluffy and light, but doesn’t crumble apart thanks to the structure the white icing adds.
These cakes aren’t actually new, but are a returning item that have popped up for a limited time during the spring for a few years now.

1. Boston Creme Pie
I must admit that I’ve never actually had a slice of Boston creme pie. But my dad, who loves the classic dessert, said this sandwich cookie tasted just like the real thing.
In this new Little Debbie creation, two soft sandwich cookies sandwich a creamy Boston creme-flavored center. And it’s got a delicious fudgy coating to top it off — just like one of my favorite desserts, Moon Pie. This new product was by far my favorite of the three. The filling was rich and creamy, with vanilla and subtle caramel undertones.
Now that I know the great work Little Debbie is doing in the snack cakes aisle, it looks like I’m going to need to stay more up-to-date on its upcoming launches.
