Cookie recipes are just about infinite, because almost anything can be shaped into a circle and baked: hence gluten-free, dairy-free, sugar-free “cookies.” But the basic cookie contains three key ingredients: butter, flour and sugar. That combination has not been bettered, and it can be varied in so many ways that, really, it’s the only recipe you need.
Ingredients
- Three logs of cookie dough(see recipe)
- Generous layer of frosting or icing (see recipe)
Preparation
- Roll the dough by hand into three logs of equal size, chill and then slice off rounds to create cookies.
- Bake until the edges are brown, about 10 minutes.
- Cool for about 2 minutes on baking sheets before using a spatula to transfer the cookies to a rack to finish cooling.
- When cookies are completely cooled, cover generously with frosting or icing.
