I was just discussing this topic with a friend and I noticed something peculiar. When we talk about SOS free foods, we usually refer to foods without _added_ salt, oil, and sugar. However, there are of course foods that are _naturally_ higher in these ingredients. Examples include avocados and nuts (naturally higher oil content), and whole fruits such as pineapple or mango (naturally higher sugar content). The naturally sweet whole foods are especially hard to miss.
But I realized that we don’t really have many (or any?) foods that are so naturally high in sodium or salt that we would take a bite and immediately recognize them as being naturally high in sodium or salt. I did some googling and turns out that celery is quite high in sodium, but I don’t think anyone has ever bit into a celery stalk and accused it of being “too salty.”
Can anyone think of foods **naturally** high in sodium or salt?
The only one I could even think of is seaweed, although most seaweed I’ve had is not just one ingredient and usually includes added salt (also, most store bought seaweed nowadays also contains a ton of oil).
I know [Dr. Alan Goldhamer discussed why added salt can be just as deleterious as added sugar and oil](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yaWVflQolmM&t=956s), but do any of the revered plant based physicians or authors discuss this interesting discrepancy regarding naturally occurring high salt foods?
