If you want to lose weight/eat healthy, if you have diabetes, it is impossible to escape the low carb movement. There are thousands of books celebrity doctors, celebrities and random youtubers and blogs who will all tell you carbs are enemy #1.

It goes by many names – low carb, keto, paleo, Atkins. And they are all pretty much the same, promoting meat+fat over everything else. Some of them are batshit insane and will claim that lentils/beans, one of the best food sources ever, are ‘poison’. They all claim they have veggies etc but the claim to fame is eating fast food and junk food.

My theory is the reason this is so popular is this is a diet designed for rich first world people eating the SAD (standard American diet), people who hate veggies and dont cook. Another common factor is they will insult and make fun of vegetarians/vegans and almost gloat in the fact that they ignore cruelty towards animals, or the resource wastage etc. These are not dietary reasons, but are no less important, but a lot of people have the arrogance to not care.

So this kind of diet, where you gorge yourself full of meat + butter/cream, is perfect for those who dont want to change their dietary habits. And they all make the assumption that every meal must contain animal protein, which is something every Western chef takes for granted. Most have no clue how to cook vegan/vegetarian, and think its depriving yourself.

These kinds of diets esp paleo have been debunked. Low carb is simply not a sustainable lifestyle for anyone whos not eating an American diet and is not rich. There are plenty of studies that prove keto has absolutely no scientific relevance or results better than any other diet – for gods sake it was invented as an epilepsy diet for kids.

And I’m sure this has the backing of the meat/dairy industry and the billion dollar diet industry who are all too happy to sell you expensive ‘low carb’ chemically modified versions of real food.

And there are many like him, I don’t mean to pick him out.

Potatoes, the #1 satiety food, have become the face of evil. The humble potato is probably the most widely used vegetable in the world!

The sad thing is due to marketing/Westernization, this low carb nonsense is now being preached in other countries in Asia/middle east etc, who have an amazing plant based cuisine with so much flavor and variety. They are told to drink protein shakes, eggs, steaks, oatmeal, and cook western recipes instead of their local cuisine. There’s a reason diabetes, cancer etc are called Western lifestyle diseases.
