    **EQUIPMENT**
    9 x 13 baking dish

    **INGREDIENTS**
    ***French Toast Casserole***

    * 16 ounces thick-cut bread (brioche, challah, Texas toast, or sourdough), cut into 1-inch cubes
    * 2 Tablespoons maple syrup (or substitute another syrup sweetener, like honey, molasses, or agave)
    * 6 large eggs
    * 1-½ cups heavy cream
    * ½ cup milk
    * ¼ cup brown sugar, packed
    * 1 Tablespoon vanilla extract
    * 1 teaspoon cinnamon
    * ⅛ teaspoon nutmeg
    * ⅛ teaspoon salt

    ***Streusel Topping***

    * ¼ cup brown sugar, packed
    * ¼ cup all purpose flour
    * ½ teaspoon cinnamon
    * Pinch of nutmeg
    * 4 Tablespoons cold butter, cut into small cubes
    * ½ cup chopped nuts of your choice (pecans, walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts, anything at all!) – (optional)

    **INSTRUCTIONS**

    1. Start by greasing a 9 x 13 baking dish with butter or cooking spray, then adding your bread cubes to the pan.
    2. In a bowl, whisk together the maple syrup, eggs, heavy cream, milk, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
    3. Pour this mixture over the top of the bread in the pan, making sure every piece gets soaked.
    4. Cover with plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for 1 hour or overnight.
    5. Preheat oven to 350°F.
    6. While waiting for the oven to heat up, make the streusel topping.
    7. Add brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and butter to a bowl and mix together with a fork until it becomes crumbly.
    8. Sprinkle this streusel topping evenly over the bread in the pan, then top with chopped nuts, if you wish.
    9. Bake on the center rack of your oven at 350°F for 35 minutes, or until lightly browned on top.
    10. Let cool a few minutes, then serve and enjoy!
