In this video, I cover my process of growing a half acre garden from start to finish. It’s been a wild journey these past few months, and I wanted to look back, reflect on the project, and provide any insights gained through the experience.

  1. It was a huge undertaking! I'm proud of what you accomplished! Thanks for taking us on you're gardening journey!

  2. Have watched all your videos and noticed how much your confidence as a gardener has grown. A book seems like a great next step!

  3. I have lived in rural areas all my life, even grew up on a farm and live on a small one now, and I have NEVER attempted a half acre garden! Kudos to you for all the success you achieved. At the beginning of the season, I thought you had lost your mind! I'm not an expert, but I am always concerned that planting under the black plastic and leaving it uncovered exposes the plant roots to too much heat from the sun, essentially baking the roots. If I use plastic sheeting, I always cover it with a thin layer of dirt and some mulch. Again, I am only an amateur gardener, so I could be quite mistaken. Sorry you didn't get much superhot pepper production this year. I planted 15 varieties and enjoyed them very much. But I always learn something to do better next year. It's a journey. Love your videos, Lucas!

  4. Omg!! I am SO happy you summarised and shared your experience and learnings from that!! I've been waiting for this!!!! Wow, such a good lesson for all, gardening lovers!!!! Thank you!!!! Lucas!!!
I can give you a tip: for next year, if you put NAtural mulch since winter, pretty thick layer, you will have such a rich soil in the spring!

  5. Love your videos man, when I saw that you took om that bib task, I thought that it will be a total disaster, but you really impress me with all that work. Tank you and I will wait for the book.

  6. Thank you for the thorough debrief. I’ve learned a lot from you already, but this incredibly informative. I am scaling up to an 1800 sq ft garden this year, coming from an urban potted garden, so this really touched on some things I need to start thinking about. Appreciate your videos and your wisdom!

  7. Hey growers, I realize this video is fairly boring but thought it necessary to cap off this season's half acre garden project! 😀👌

  8. My husband is a professional farmer… your 1/2 acre garden experience is pretty much a perfect snapshot of farming :). Never enough time, waaaaay too much work (truly overwhelming, in fact), never enough help, often without the right equipment (because it's too expensive), and things that should go right just go wrong because of elements outside of your control (pesticide drift from a neighbor, bad weather, unusual bug cycles, etc. etc. etc.). And then you summed it up perfectly, "I sold the produce and it didn't make very much."

Every winter we repeat the same refrain, "it'll be better next year." Anyway, I just really appreciate all of the labor you put into your plot this year, and this summation video which is a realistic if stark portrayal of the realities of the small farm experience. It's an extremely worthy endeavor, but it definitely isn't easy.

  10. You should be proud of what you accomplished. It's good to have perspective, but don't be too hard on yourself. What you viewed as failure, is actually more experience that can lead to a better harvest in your future gardening endeavors. It sounds like you have a very good understanding as to how you succeeded in some areas and failed in others. If you happen to do this ever again, you're going to get better results next time, no doubt about it. Looking forward to seeing your gardening book! 🌻

  11. I share your dream of wanting a farm… I love to see vegetables & fruit trees as it is a symbol of LIFE. But have sadly I’m no longer young nor full of energy. So I congratulate you of your hardworking effort; your tenacity of seeing it through and not just giving up. You are an inspiration to many who share the same dream as yours. As you say, it is those well learned experience that makes person rich in life. Congratulations!

  12. Why dont use drip irrigation system its not to expensive and best for this or you can make yours drip whit 1.5 l pvc bottles

  13. Thanks for sharing your acre farm experience, Lucas. I enjoyed watching the steps you took; although it didn't work in your favor…that's ok! No mistakes…just a gardening experience. Keep sharing your gardening techniques…I really enjoy watching and learning. I just started gardening last summer.

  14. Hi Lucas! Love your channel! I’ve got some pepper seeds I’d love to share with you. They are peppers from the mountains of Veracruz Mexico. Very hard to find in the states. Not too spicy just right for salsa. Let me know if I can send some your way!

  15. Thank you for the update! I really liked to follow this project and i think it was a great success! Please make the book available in Europe too when you ll publish it and i pray there will be plenty of pictures with your gorgeous veggies! I ll get it even if i don t have a job, lol, so hope it’s won’t be too pricey, but it sure will be priceless for all the wisdom that you ll put into it. I live in the mountains where i have a really short and cold growing season, but even so i managed to grow Big Beef Tomatoes (full size) without a green house. I would have never dare to think i can grow big tomatoes here. I have no idea how s the weather where are you located, but i assumed it’s similar to mine and that gave me courage to try growing big tomatoes( i looked everywhere for that variety cuz it s hard to find it in my country apparently, haha). Maybe you ll grow broccoli and teach me how to do it! Can t figure it out…with seeds and planting time. Thank you for the video!
