Are cassette butane stoves safe to use indoors? I have an Iwatani that I love for making KBBQ in the backyard but the stove came with warnings not to use inside. I see them used indoors often in Korean cooking videos.

My main reason for asking is because I’d like to do KBBQ indoors when the weather isn’t great. Also, the house I’m currently living in has an electric stove and I sometimes prefer an open flame.

It’s as safe as using a built in gas stove in terms of fumes, of course those are worse than people think! If you have a ventilation fan in your kitchen I would feel OK using it once in a while.

Spatter is the main reason I don’t use one of these inside often. If you’ve ever seen the pictures of people in Korea covering their whole house in newspaper to cook samgyeopsal the struggle is real!

  3. I used mine inside the apartment and it set off the building’s fire alarm. Probably fine if you live in a single family house or have better ventilation than me
