Hi, we are Harriet and Mauro and in February 2021 we bought an abandoned smallholding in Castellรณn, Spain. In these videos we share our life as we restore and improve our little stone house, learn to grow and preserve our own food, and bring our 4 acres of farmland back to productivity.
If you enjoy the videos we make and are looking for a way to say a quick thanks for the work that goes into making them, here is a way for you to make a one-off donation ๐ฅฐ:

That's what we try as well. Every year we are able to eat more from our garden.
Cleans old Penny's too, have a shortage of coins in the US did better than pros.
Great insights and good job eating from the garden everyday ๐
I freeze many of my dryed produce to kill off as many bugs as possible. I also oven dry can all my nuts once shelled, they last for years! Thanks you for this great video!

Porque no pones en Espaรฑol
Carrot top pesto, broad bean hummus, dried rosehip tea, ground cornmeal, pea and mint dip…your culinary creativity knows no bounds. How fulfilling to nurture yourselves from the fruit of your own labor and nature's generosity!
A successful year all round Harriet & Mauro โฆ and bartering is a great way of life๐ can u please put link to your pickling of radish seedpods on next video๐๐๐
I just love your videos. You are both so inspiring to me that I made it a goal to eat something everyday out of my garden last year. It is small, but it was so fun to do. Also, I love your dogs. What kind of dog is your bigger one?
What an action packed year! I imagine it would be hard to sustain that level of intensity in the long run so outsourcing some aspects sounds like a smart move – having a bit of a "life" outside of homesteading never hurts either. Looking forward to see how 2023 shapes up – keep up the good work.
Thanks for the lovely vid
Saludos
Great video. I am glad you did it. Such a good lesson. Be part of a small community than to rely on government. Love it.
15:53 where did you get hand powered mill? Thanks

Me encantan tus vรญdeos pero quisiera pedirte un favor, habla un poco mรกs lento , los subtรญtulos van a la misma rapidez que tรบ hablas y no da tiempo a leer, gracias
You did a real good job eating from your garden daily. Your home and garden is looking good. You should be proud of everything you have done while learning.
Looks like you had a great year! Very little in this life gives a person more pleasure than eating homegrown produce. Good on you for sticking to your challenge, and thank you for filming all those great baskets of veggies. Really, really enjoyed this episode. Missed you last week, but it was worth the wait. Cheers from snowy New York โค๏ธโค๏ธ๐ฝ
I adored this video and so did my kids (5 & 7)! It's dreary here in Portland, Oregon, USA and this was inspiring because you reminded me to move with the seasons. It makes me feel better that we're getting just kale and tree collards from our urban backyard garden right now! I also loved that you talked about relying on community for your resiliency and not just focusing on self-sufficiency. That seems both wise and kind to yourself! Thank you for sharing your journey with us!
What a huge achievement. To grow anything is a great success. Gardening is fraught with heartache and failure it makes the wins so much sweeter!!! You should be very proud of the life you've chosen. Plus your eating so healthy!!! You've inspired me to even think about growing kale. Which would be a first for me!!! Blessings from NZ
THIS WAS A WONDERFUL LOOK BACK. I FOLLOWED THE WHOLE LAST YEAR, AND WHAT AN EXPERIENCE, WATCHING YOUR SELF SUFFICIENCY EVOLVE. THANKS FOR SHARING , A GREAT ABUNDANCE OF SUCCESS. WORDS WELL SAID, DO WHAT MAKES US HAPPY, THATS THE KEY. ENJOY YOUR YOUTH. I WISH I HAD SPENT MORE OF MY YEARS TENDING TO A GARDEN. NOW IM ALMOST TOO OLD TO DO THAT, AND ITS A BUMMER. HOWEVER SEEING THIS NEXT GENERATION EMBRACING FARMING ON ANY SCALE MAKES ME SMILE. BE BLESSED, FROM IDAHO U.S.A. MAY YOUR GARDEN BE ABUNDANT IN 2023.
It's great to look back at ALL you have done! great documentation and FUN~!
You have put an amazing amount of work into your garden and will have learnt a lot this year about what is best to grow in your conditions. You have the right attitude in my opinion. Grow what you like to eat, what grows well for you and what takes reasonable effort for adequate return. I think you will be much happier with your garden this year now that you know what works best for you. Love your videos and seeing how you and Mauro grow into self sufficiency.
Congratulations. You were very successful, in my opinion. You learned some very valuable lessons. This year will that much better. Love you. ๐๐๐งก๐๐๐๐๐
I have massively enjoyed watching you guys over the last year. Your videos bring such a sense of calm to me. I thank you for sharing your journey with us. May the coming year bring bountiful harvests, smiles and laughter, and continued growth. Blessings ๐
Well done! Its a great challenge and one i intend to set myself i think, though for a while it will be just herbs๐ a friend of mine set herself 365 days of preserving which is one i'd love to try when i'm not working fulltime. I agree with choosing the things you enjoy and are good at and doing those and become part of a community to exchange and assist each other. Building community is also part of becoming sufficient.
Great video! What you say about not being totally self sufficient is very true. Not even our Ancestors were. Iโve been growing food, flowers and medicine for decades and will never be self sufficient. There are just too many variables that are out of our control. Weather, pests, health. Playing to your strengths and supporting your health are wonderful things.
That was the best video yet! Being in the city, all of it is eye candy. The color of the stone, the dirt and the warm yellow sunlight. And half those vegetables Iโve never seen before or see how they grow. I have never seen fresh plums or almonds in those shells. Anyway, thank you both for great videos!
