In an era where low end wine sales are collapsing, the only real way to make money in the wine business is to premiumize. There’s no money in 2 euro wines anymore, and those small producers making cheap wine need to look outside the box to survive.
Going natural is a quick and easy way to produce a premium priced product while cutting costs. All those chemicals and advanced production methods cost a lot of money after all!

I mean cheap plonk in Italy is already pretty horrific but there is going to be so much gnarly wine with “natural” ferments covering up bad fruit.
