THUMBS UP
Bizarre weather in some parts of the country, dwindling water supplies and disruptions resulting from political, social and disease events can cause shortages in the food supply. Add to that the fact that food companies are experiencing labor shortages and cutting corners wherever they can, and some farmers are throwing in the towel. There are multiple incentives to grow one's own food!
On the subject of starting seeds under lights, I have noticed that seeds I plant under LED lights tend to germinate a week or more earlier than the seed packets indicate. Thus I have to adjust the start dates indicated on seed packages (5 or 6 weeks before last frost instead of 6 or 7 weeks, lest my seedlings outgrow their pots. For example, this morning, I noticed that my spinach seeds had sprouted, only 3 days after planting!
Girl, you were reading my mind! I was thinking the exact thing. As I’m sitting here starting seeds. God bless you and your encouraging videos.
I started all my pepper seeds today plus some eggplant, flowers and herb seeds
After looking at the price of an 18 pk of eggs at Wally world yesterday $6.88 , I was even more thankful that my fat little raptors ( my girls) are producing ,enjoy those golden eggs. I'm itching to get in the dirt but mother nature gave us a new round of snow and cold
Hi Jill from NY. Guess what I have? Potatoes on my window sill. And I have celery, green onions, and sprouts. I will start my garden seeds soon. I wish I could post a pic so you can see what I do in my small space. God Bless.
Jill as always thank you for covering world events on top of your awesome gardening and cooking content. CBS News finally came out publicly on the 9th confirming that they are “talking”about vaccinating all the chickens. There is more to this for those willing to look 😁. Stay informed and at peace. I do know that our food supply is being cleaned up one industry at a time. We didn’t see over 100 food plants and factories go up in flames 🔥 for no reason. So much love to you all ❤ and never forget if God before us who can stand against us 🙏💪🥰
I can no longer support Baker Creek (Rare Seeds) because they mandated the hokey pokey for their employees until the court said they couldn't. With that said I have found some other great companies to spend my money with. Wishing everyone the best.
Absolutely gorgeous!! I'm up to 80 jars as of yesterday. Did 5 of pico yesterday!! They will never let the "pandemic" go!! Too much money. I have seeds to plant. I also use Baker Heirloom seeds. Much love. God bless 🥰
YAY! 2023…Let's do it. Hey one of my BFF's lives in a little apartment, and just bought 1 EARTHBOX kit. The plan is to grow 2 tomato plants. It's about 99.00 for everything. Dirt, fertilizer- complete directions. I highly recommend new growers to give it a try, if you don't know where to start. I have 3 of those boxes that did a wonderful job for my broccoli this winter. Once you master the earth box, and get some confidence..LOOK OUT! 😆😆
Hello Jill—wonderful message you shared. Thanks as always for taking time to encourage, share and teach.
I ran across a video which mentioned planting 'wild garlic' to keep aphids at bay and wondered if that was something you guys had tried….is there any truth to it? It's scientific name is allium ursinum.
Also was searching for particular butterbean seed–Jackson Wonder–and finally came across them at a Texas company–over 100 years old. They are Willhite Seed Inc. in Poolville, Texas Parker County. It sure helps having a variety of companies to run to when you are trying to get what you like.
Have a great weekend…love ya pal Jesus bless.
Oops…wanted to ask what brand of feed you are feeding your chickens. That is another can of worms, huh?
We use Willhite Seed from Poolesville. Has anyone else tried them and what do yall think?
Trying to find the pots you mentioned from Sams for $9. I don’t see them on the website. Could you possibly send a link?
If y’all haven’t heard they are going to be injecting mRNA into cattle, livestock, companion animals! They want to get that poison in us any way they can. They may have already started. Get any organic meats you can now and can that stuff up friends❤. God bless.
Daily watering changed my operation last year. Having timers on water valves saved so much time. This year I'm testing out foliar Calcium Chloride to boost growth, as calcium is the slowest to gather for tomato plants.
Every year I battle flag-footed bugs, I'm going extra-toxic this year until I find out how to get rid of them. I had my property borders sprayed but it wasn't enough.
Other suggestion, if not wanting to have a "garden" in your backyard, plant edibles in your flower beds with your flowers. A good way to get started gardening. You may find yourself expanding your flowerbeds to accommodate a few more edibles. Garlic is excellent with roses. I had squash (bush variety) growing next to my roses my first year. They hid the bottom of the rose while making the flowerbed look fuller. Also, planted sun loving basil in mass in my front yard flowerbed and looked great all summer. Happy growing!
Okay, okay!! Starting some today. 😂. Yukon gold potatoes in the ground. Starting tomato seeds today. ❤️. Thanks for the motivation. Keep on keeping on. Endeavor to persevere.
Last fall I tried my hand with some different pea varieties. Just a small area. My wife loved them as a snack, fresh. She just informed me that she wants more peas and some extra to put up in the freezer. I'm going to take one of my 4'x4' raised beds and fill it with 4 different pea varieties. SFG book says I can put 9 plants per square. That's 144 plants!! Sowing early spring and then again in the fall. KEEP PLANTING!
Jill, I recommend you blocking "slackeru" that is trying to cause an argument in your comments. I appreciate all the Good information you provide us!👍🙏🙏🙏🙌🏽🙌🏽
Bonnie plants at box stores were like $4.78 in Wichita ks last year
As a novice/hobby gardener trying to work smarter and become better, I appreciate you more than most channels because you show me what to plant/seed where I actually live. Thank you for your dedication and great content!
Just placed another Johnny’s order. Bought lumber last night, seed trays and mix today. We’re expanding again, this time on new land!
