When considering a drip watering system, I decided on trying drip tape instead of drip tubing since I was starting my organic vegetable garden from scratch.

  1. Looks like everyone is recommending shut offs, that was going to be one of my suggestions. The other one I learned from Laura at GA was to use a clamp to keep the hose on the T or elbow. Depending on your water pressure (even with the reducer) the hose can pop off and drown your garden. Hoping to get drip installed here in the next week or two. Overhead watering is pain and the temps are going up fast! Good luck!

  2. I live in upper Illinois. Can you tell me about how you'd winterize drip? Do you have to pull the system out? That sounds like a lot of work, but, I'm still interested… I know how with sprinkler systems, to winterize, you push air though it to get the moisture out, before it freezes, otherwise, the hoses or tubes burst because of ice. So, how do you winterize a drip garden?

  3. Is Miracle Grow potting soil for fruit and vegetables good to use? If not can you suggest what potting soil is the best to use?

  4. Have you got any advise for tarp gardens? I have started one and it seems to do good. So far I didn't have to top my pepper plants as the deer ate the tops then I feared they wouldn't come back. I have binged watch you garden series today looking for advice. I am goin to go home and try to fix my squash and zucchini end rot by pollinating them as you had suggested. I really enjoy your videos. My tomatoes leaves were curling and I watered before sticking my finger in the soil it has been dry in Tennessee for this last week. But the people who put me on to tarp gardens said do not water it. I hope I didn't mess it up. Thanks for sharing you knowledge.

  5. I'm not sure if I've missed any videos or comments on this, but can anything vegetable garden-wise grow with new sod? As in, all of my plants are within "near-constant-watering" at this new house to make the grass grow & hold….so can any edibles survive that?

  6. Great video and thanks for the knowledge on drip systems. I have been looking into installing one. If you don't mind, I have a question about your new beds though. They appeared to be just 4 inches deep with the mesh on the bottom. I though most plants needed more soil than that or am I wrong?

  7. How many rows of drip tape do you put in a 4×8 raised bed?
I have learned so much from your videos. Thank you so much for what your showing and teaching us. I bought your Companion Planting Book and I love it, so helpful.

  8. Thank you for all your knowledge on gardening, we live in British Columbia Canada on the Shuswap lake,it rained all spring and then it got hot the tomatoes and peppers got spots , I treated them with peroxide that worked and the aspirin treatment.
    Question???
Would the aspirin treatment work on my peppers?
Wow! I learned so much from tomatoes from you, thank you for all you do and share. Blessings 💝

  9. Great video that I'm using to guide drip irrigation installation in my new garden. A few questions. Why did you choose drip tape over the drip tubing you had in your old garden? In the video you stated that drip tape needed a 10psi regulator while drip tubing needed 20psi yet your links are for the 20psi regulator. Did you compare these components with those available at Lowe's/Home Depot? These seem much more expensive. What determines the best supply line size (3/4 or 5/8 or 1/2)? Should I put the drip tape/tubing under or on top of my straw mulch? It appears the drip lines are spaced at 6", 12", 12", 12", 6", yes? Thanks for all your advice!

  10. I’m having a problem with one zucchini plant in my raised bed. All the other plants seem pretty healthy. This one plant is turning yellow all throughout the main leaves the young leaves in the center are still green. I wish I could send a pic but maybe you have an idea? No vine borers yet.

  11. I'm suprised you didn't set up a manifold system. Put timers on the mains…allowing for a more general irrigation pressure.
Your layout is Awesome, but by the time the water gets to the lower levels, the pressure/volume will be greatly reduced.
I to plan on using a flat type hose, but struggled to find a good connecting system.
I will be Definitely checking out the links.
    Thanks for the great content

Bin waiting for a rainy day to watch this…yeup it's raining (July 4th/Spokane).

  12. If I don’t have enough figure eight clamps I’ll use a tie wrap on the main line and or the drip tape. Thanks for sharing!

  13. I have always thought using drip LINE was more economical than drip TAPE (tape has to be replaced more often). Is that mindset correct? Are you just trying the tape method to compare the two options? Tape seems to be an easier installation, but can you use it for more than one season? Your tape installation seems to have a smoother workflow. Is there a significant cost difference?

  14. Hope everything is okay, you've disappeared for awhile. Look forward to your next video and really hope nothing bad has happened to you or your family💜

  15. I only have one raised bed. Can I use flat drip tape along with my already installed 1/4 tubing with with holes that are 6 inches apart ? 🤔

  16. TIP TIP TIP
    (1) You will want to put on/off valves at each bed it’s easy to do, just get the piece and cut the tube and put it in.
    (2) You might have enough pressure to go to all the beds at once, but I didn’t.
The way to fix it is either have a plumber run water to each level OR turn on each level at a time.
I turn off some beds and the water will go to the ones that are on.
I think that having that many beds it might not water evenly… Or at least mine didn’t.
When I turn on all my beds the bed at the end of the line steals the water from the first beds.
This kinda sucks because I can only use the timer selectively and have to manually turn on and off the other beds.
Hope you don’t have this problem. I am wondering if I might have better luck with drip tape. I am using the emitters.
Following and hoping yours works great.

  17. Your garden looks super great. Your tomato bed looks rather permanent. Do you plan to grow tomatoes there annually?

  18. Aloha! Nancy from Maui here! I would like to do a similar set up on a way smaller scale from my rain barrels to my main garden down a small slope. I am just worried there’s would not be enough pressure.

  19. Hi Brian, I have a problem. I have a rain barrel just like yours. I can turn on the faucet and fill my watering can, but when I put the hose on it ,it won’t flow thru the hose!😢 If I can’t do that how am I going to hook it up to my drip system? Frustrated in Pennsylvania. 🥰

  20. Why drip tape instead of drip tubing? Making my own garden boxes for next year, zone 5b/6a in Utah. Trying to choose between drip methods, previous garden used 1/4” tubing with 6” emitters.

  21. From your previous videos, you seemed very happy with a bro line so I’m confused why you put in drip tape. I’m getting ready to redo my irrigation system and I’m not sure why you switched to tape for your terraces.
