I was planning on cooking it just like a stew with stewing beef. Carrots, celery, onion, brown meat, beef broth, 8hours low. Good idea? Bad? Wrong type of meat?

Wrong cut for stew.

Prime rib isn’t stewing meat. You want something like a chuck roast for that.
whackozacko6
This is prime rib. Do not put this in the slow cooker

You should google how to roast prime rib instead, and roast your veggies.

NOOOOOO! Crock pot will ruin that, which is one of the most beautiful and pricey cuts of meat. Prime rib is to be roasted (dry heat) and served rare. Get cheaper cut for crock pot, like chuck.

Hello, you take salt little bit of rock salt and rub it down and some pepper prime rib is very simple. It’s a very choice cut of meat you don’t put it in the crockpot unless you really want super moist meat, but prime rib is designed for just like when you have in the restaurant and they slice a portion for you, if you go on YouTube, there’s great cooking chefs
I mean you can do whatever you want with it that it’s actually designed you know like a slice of steak well done medium medium rare . I don’t know where you bought that but that’s awfully cheap usually prime rib to serve six people will cost about $300 now.

Haha thanks all! I bought stewing beef too so I used that until I had more info. Glad I did you guys ripped my plans to shreds haha thanks.

For all the people saying don’t do that with this cut, it a premium cut, use a cheaper cut for crock pot…
Why should we care how he spends his money? It’s his prerogative, he’s just asking quite specifically how to cook it in a crock pot.

Fixin’ to do venison stew. In slow cooker, WML! Prime rib? Strictly oven!
Rosieapples
Put a stockpot or cube into the crockpot, with about half a cup of water, plus any herbs or spices. Turn it on to heat up meanwhile brown the outside of the joint in the pan then cook it on low for however long, turning it around every half hour or so. It’ll cook up lovely and you can use the stock for gravy. I freeze whatever is leftover and use it for other roasts or casseroles.
protomex
Put it in your airfryer

DONT.

My dad usually cooks it but the one time I did was sous vide for around 4 hours I think? Then threw it in a hot oven for a bit to get the outside crust. Turned out great but of course it’s prime rib.

[J. Definitely gave me confidence and delicious results when I’ve had expensive roasts.
Please don’t! Prime rib is a crime in a slow cooker.
You need help eating that prime rib?
YOU DON’T
You don’t.
Put this in a crockpot and I will hunt you down like a dog.
Please don’t. You’ll ruin it.
You don’t if you have any respect for that fine cut of meat
YOU WOULDN’T! You roast this beautiful thing, no crock pot.
Get a sous vide cooker and put the prime rib in that. then hot sear it a few minutes in a 500 degree oven when it’s done. trust me.
Do not do that!
You don’t.
I would not put a $36 cut of meat in the slow cooker.
Let me know where you live and I’ll swap you a chuck roast that is perfect for a slow cooker for that nasty prime stuff );
20 minutes/ pound 350 degrees with only salt and pepper Amazing
This is the best troll I’ve seen in a long time, ‘well done’!
