I potted up my tomatoes from seed cells to 3” cups a couple weeks ago (seeds started 2/23/23) and some of the seedlings have already grown to be 8-9” tall! I’m hardening them off right now and planning to transplant in a couple more weeks. I don’t have a ton of space inside, but could probably pot up at least a few of the bigger ones between now and transplant if needed. Would y’all recommend doing that now, or just keeping them in these cups until it’s time to put them in the raised bed? I don’t want to shock them but also don’t want them to be stunted.

I’d also love thoughts on fertilizing – I transplanted them up in a mix with nutrients, but wasn’t sure when I should start adding fertilizer.

Thank you!

Now would be a good time! A good rule of thumb I use is, when the plant itself is 3x the size/height of the pot it’s in, it’s time to repot.

Everyone may have a different take on this but I generally up pot or transplant to the garden after the 2nd set of true leaves.
