With an 18% service charge I either don’t tip or leave maybe 5%. The presumption is that the charge covers their being paid a living wage.

What’s wrong with something like this:

    >”As a non-tipping restaurant, we add a 20% fee to all checks. This is not a tip or gratuity, and tips are discouraged.”

They’re literally telling you not to tip so the $$ has to go to the server.

Genuinely curious: How do we know that the 18% doesn’t go to the servers?

Is this referring to the 3-4% ‘health’ charge, or a full 18-20% ? It’s two separate issues.

  5. I think there are a LOT of different things going on and some bad players and good players. I know enough industry players who are trying to say, equalize health care for long term employees and equalize wages between front and back staff. And there are clearly, clearly jerks who are stealing from staff. So, Requbliue health care is real. AOC is real. I believe a Sugarfish is paying a living wage. But a ton of little restaurants are taking advantage to steal from staff.
