My wife and I have been going for 30 years. We had to make one more visit. It’s still good. Yuca fries, shrimp tostada bites, and the Navajo taco.

  1. We have one opening in Buda/Kyle soon. I’ve tried it twice and was not impressed at all. I’ll let this one get broke in for a few months and give it 1 more shot.

    Z Tejas has never been the same since Jack Gilmore left and they decided to try to franchise. The tex-mex dishes at Jack Allen’s Kitchen are actually closer to the old Z Tejas than Z Tejas is these days. Not saying I love Jack Allen’s but, if you miss the old Z Tejas go eat at one of Jack Gilmore’s places.

    The Navajo Taco was the most unique dish in Austin. Once it disappeared from the menu at the Arboretum it seemed to coincide with their downfall trend. I loved the vibe, the food, the drinks and the view of the hills from their north location. No reason for them to fail except their own fault

    The white decorative wood “arches” are historic, architectural relics from the Butler House. Same as the brick window in the Zilker botanical garden.

    I really hope they save these or at least give them away to someone who cares

    Hotly anticipating how this block will change over the next 3 years. I hope the hotel and restaurants are an asset to the neighborhood and are inviting even for a normal meal.

  7. I’m curious to see how the Z does in Kyle, where there’s a huge lack of decent sit down restaurants (especially locally-owned) and a plethora of fast food & fast casual.
