Good coffee means different things to different people. But I think there is a minimum standard. These coarse grinds were at the bottom of an Americano from a cafe around Roncesvalles.

  1. An Americano is espresso with hot water.

Espresso is a fine powder grind and I liken Americanos to whisky with water and ice. Tone down the firey bitterness and taste more of the other notes.

This Americano started strong and finished with grit. I’d suspect it was french press being passed off for an Americano.

Where does one go in the region to be served that 3rd wave coffee that has more in common with tea than just coffee?

Just around the corner is Ethica Roasters, my favourite and one of best roastery and cafe’s in the city. AM cafe is also super cute, and make a nice coffee, they have a chill out/zen space which is cool too.

  3. Maybe you could let them know about the coffee grounds so they can try to improve?? Sometimes it’s an issue with training, and you’d be helping a local business improve the quality of their product.

That’s gross, I hate getting a mouthful of grinds.

Maybe they didn’t clean the espresso machine, like the group head where the porta filter clicks into.

I highly recommend Cherry Bomb on Roncesvalles. They have great pastries baked on site too.

Great cafés in the Dundas/Bloor area:
    Martin Espresso
    Ethica
    Outpost Coffee Roasters
    Fantail

Not bad coffee: Jimmy’s coffee, AM Studio (they have good beans, but poor execution)

Can someone explain to me why its wrong? I’m genuinely just trying to understand. Does it change the taste? Is it just annoying?
