Another excellent dinner at Jeffrey’s, which imo is the best steakhouse in Austin.

Ordered the Beeman Ranch Porterhouse this time, aged for 32 days. I’m not typically a fan of aged steak but this one was excellent because you can actually taste an improvement to the taste due to the aging. Will be difficult to not order this one again next visit.

We also had the croquettes, lobster bisque, and diver scallops to start. The diver scallops were another highlight of the meal. The slices of citrus and hazelnuts were so good. Lobster bisque was heavy on the creaminess but still pretty good.

As sides we had the creamed spinach, mashed potatoes, and mushrooms. The mushrooms and potatoes are so, so good. Some of the best I’ve had. Skipped the fries because they don’t know how to cook them properly and they’re always served underdone.

Had the chocolate soufflé which was a nice, simple dessert to end a heavy meal. Drinks from the cocktail menu were good but a little on the sweet side. Atmosphere was cool as always and there were some interesting people dining there lol. Service was professional and attentive although it did feel a little rushed towards the end.

I don’t know what you are talking about with the fries. They’ve always been the best fries I’ve ever eaten. Maybe they changed something?

How much did you pay? I just wanna see if I can afford it

Love Jeffrey’s, but man the last time I was there I had a terrible server and it has left a bad taste in my mouth ever since.

Austin Land and Cattle or even any of the chain ones (Truluck’s, III Forks, Eddie V’s, etc) kick the crap out of Jeffrey’s for value. Was surprised to see people upvoting MML here.

So silly question, do people dress to the nines at these places in Austin? Seattle doesn’t have a dress code.

I always get the onion ring too. Great choice.

No. Fuck you, nobody cuts my steak for me like I’m a fucking toddler.

Jeffrey’s is off my list now. Thanks for the heads up.

Food was really good at Jeffreys. Service was pretty bad though and extremely snooty. Wasn’t a big fan of the overall experience and for $500 a meal, I didn’t think it tasted better than any $200-$300 meal I could get.

Steiner Ranch was my favorite steak experience around here in the past 6 months.

  11. Jeffrey’s definitely is my favorite place to eat when I’m feeling like a “baller” lol but aside from that BIG BIG shout out to one of their employees there I forget if he was a server or valet guy, iirc his name was Carlos, but a friend and I were leaving right before they started to shut down & as my friend & I started to walk I guess south towards 10th street & someone on the street in a ski mask brandished a gun and tried to mug us it all happened so fast but out of nowhere this man Carlos came running out of nowhere & I mean RAY LEWIS’D this guy to the ground & disarmed him. He asked if we were good and vice versa, all was well but he was still so calm all while sitting on top of dude right on the sidewalk 😂😂😂 we walked straight home after that and talked about Carlos the whole way! So if y’all ever go and run into Carlos, tall, bearded, and tatted, y’all give that man a shout out & some love on behalf of me please! Lifesaver honestly!!

By far the most overrated Austin food experience in my 4 years here. We waited over a month for a reservation (mid pandemic) and got seated in the crowded ass bar section. The steaks were no better than capital grille quality and this this coming from an Argentine. Walked over to the taco flats after and it was wayyy more enjoyable. Don’t waste your money or time.

    J. Carvers blows them out of the water. Service at Jeffrey’s has dropped off big time.

Welp, I’m hungry just looking at this.
Good for you, OP! I hope it was as good as it looks.

Better than Dean’s? (Haven’t been there but have reservations). I haven’t had that great of steak experiences in Austin.

The wine lists here are tough for me to not complain about. I assume they mark them way up so they don’t lose as much margin when they proudly offer 50% off on Sunday? It’s a shame, as it’s otherwise one of the best lists in Austin

I was the pastry chef there during pandemic and my friend is chef currently – Jeffrey’s has great steaks and wine – wish they’d change rest of the menu more often though

Jeffrey’s isn’t even a blip on the radar for best steakhouse in town. Maybe once upon a time pre-MML Hospitality but there are so many better options for a fraction of the cost. J Carver’s is tied with Red Ash for best steak in town, imho. I remember a time when I thought Jeffrey’s was amazing but I suppose my experience was limited and my expectations were low. I would put Jeffrey’s on par with Stiner Ranch Steakhouse. Over priced fare for folks who don’t know any better. Overall, would not recommend.
