Their cornbread is pretty fabulous. It’s made with what they call sour milk (buttermilk maybe??), hatch chilies, and cheddar cheese. It comes in a hot cast iron pan and topped with a knob of butter and a bunch of honey.

Their country ham was fantastic too. Thinly shaved with a great smoke flavor. They serve it with Bub & Grandma’s bread and sweet butter.

Not pictured is their pork chili stew. Do NOT order that one. It was quite bad. Probably the worst chili or stew I’ve ever had.

I would highly recommend both of the first dishes to anyone who eats there. I’ll definitely be back to try the rest of their food. Service was slow. Decor was very nice and cozy. Valet is available but there’s decent free street parking nearby.

  1. Yeah. They have some tasty dishes but some misses too. Ordered the dumplings and a few other items. Everything was too salty. The oysters were good. I would have liked to try the ribeye but didn’t. Good atmosphere though.

I feel like this restaurant is indicative of the broader LA dining scene. Trying to be cozy but also trying to be progressive. Trying to be a local gem but also sorta expensive. hard to imagine anyone calling this their favorite restaurant but also no one would say it’s objectively bad.

Looks good. How crowded was it though? They’re gonna have to get a lot of people from out of the neighborhood to sustain with those prices.

Not surprised the place got protested by locals when it opened, the menu / prices aren’t even trying to appeal to longtime Glassell residents. Bub & Grandma’s next door is also super-hipster but it’s pretty affordable/casual.

I’ve had a couple of great dinners there. Baby albacore, cornbread, and pork chop were standouts. Very cozy vibe as well.

What specifically did you think was wrong with the stew
