Austin has the best food in TX… interesting take.

They obviously aren’t taking into account the feelings of this sub

Interesting list, having been to many of these spots I can agree. There is so much variety in NY, can’t get enough. BUT I could eat poboys and crawfish, oysters and boudin until the end of time (NOLA).

Anytime you read an article that has Austin in the top 10 of best cities or best food just stop reading and close the tab

Among the best cities for overpriced food & restaurants? Absolutely

I met this guy who was convinced that austin has the best food “you just ain’t lookin for it, man”.. then he goes on to give me restaurants in pflugerville that he likes. First of all- that’s not really austin. Second, he’s actually tryin to tell me that our Mexican food is better than SA. Get your head outta your ass, stranger. I feel like all we have is Asian food and it’s not even particularly good, we just have a large variety of it. Where’s Italian? We got any French food? I know there’s some decent Indian if you wanna pay for it. Austin has decent food but not like this.

Austin lacks in diverse ethnic foods.

I’m sorry, I absolutely love Austin and am a lifelong resident. the food scene is lacking. Nowhere near the variety of Chicago, NYC, NOLA.

Absolutely hilarious that ATX made it on here and Htown / DFW didn’t but eh I’ll take it

Inb4 the bots start complaining about how Austin isn’t as good as NY, CHI, etc.

Seriously who’s judging/voting on this? It makes no sense at all.

I don’t like the idea that diverse ethnic foods is what lacks in Austin’s food scene. I get that complaint, but having a wide range of ethnic cuisines alone does not determine if a place is a good food city or not, but that always comes up.
That said, lists and articles like these are why people move to Austin… and uh yea. Great marketing to make people move here.
kmmartin512
It’s not even the best in TX.

Love austin and live here, but cop on. Houston outdoes Austin by miles

They’re are 1000s of restaurants here… I’d say only 30-50 would be considered top tier. Maybe.

Absolutely shocked Las Vegas isn’t on that list.

Dumb anecdote, but I was waiting for a table at a nice DC restaurant and a dude asked where we were from. I said Austin, and his immediate response was “well you’ve got us beat for food there, maybe one of the best spots in the country!” ¯_(ツ)_/¯

When it comes to H-Town I don’t think the rest of the US knows just how good Cajun food is seriously and H-Town has that shit. They don’t even know about crawfish in the PNW. Until people go to a place to get real good food like that they are not going to know what they are missing. and dairy/meat for a long time and you can taste that in the food you really can. Seattle has some of the oldest Chinese and Japanese joints in the US and Austin has places that give them a run for their money.
When it comes to H-Town I don’t think the rest of the US knows just how good Cajun food is seriously and H-Town has that shit because it’s so close. They don’t even know about crawfish in the PNW. Until people go to a place to get real good food like that they are not going to know what they are missing. Houston is also where international consulates are located so they by that alone have more diverse food because they have embassies there.

As an Austin old-timer I can verify that Austin food today is much better than the food scene of a few decades ago. Yes, I miss some old favorites and still patronize the remaining classics, but the food of long ago was more known for being inexpensive than good. Even BBQ. It used to be you had to go to all the surrounding towns for a BBQ fix, but now they all have a satellite location here. Just had a great Hot Pot meal on Airport. I had only seen that kind of food on vacation in LA or something but now you can get a good version close to home. I have no complaints, the food is better every year.

We got 10th in the US citing food trucks and BBQ. Absolutely fair and accurate.

I’m surprised Food and Wine would put Austin in the Top 10 and Houston is not like #3 or something. Not even on the list. This is the author so it actually doesn’t surprise me: https://www.pinterest.com/erikarae/writing-clips/

Good for them (the local shout outs in the article).

I guess if you’ve never been anywhere else lol

Austin ranked just under San Diego. That’s a good joke. The gap between those two cities is massive.

I think we all can agree that the big three (NYC, LA, Chicago) has the bar when it comes to food cities. When it comes down to the pound for pound rankings, Austin has to be right up there. It’s been getting better year by year and will only continue.
