Want The Best Chinese Food in LA? Try Zen Mei Bistro @ Yale Street, Chinatown. I recommend salt and pepper squid and their crispy egg noodles!

This is one of my favorite spots for Chinese in Chinatown. Also Jade Wok is pretty good, too with their house special tofu.
Wouldn’t call it the best but I have never had a bad meal there. This is very solid food, a great neighborhood spot. It’s not too oily or saucy. The owner/family is super sweet. I love the authentic dishes but damn that orange peel chicken/beef is slamming.
Check out the nearby temple too while you are there. Jade Wok is also pretty good neighborhood spot. There is also that spot upstairs at Far East Plaza that does a superb white cut chicken. The name escapes me. Also Pearl River Deli. Long’s Family Pastry has snow mountain bbq pork buns and big buns.
There are good spots for Chinese food in Chinatown! Yes most of these spots have local and Chinese customers. It’s the real deal. Come support these local businesses!
Why go get some meh French dipped sandwiches (shots fired) when you can eat like the King and Queen you are before a Dodgers game?

Thanks for the recommend. I’ve been hitting up Monterey Park area exclusively these days for Chinese. But I love Chinatown.
Plaintarts
+1 the owner and staff are super friendly! Their lunch deals are pretty insane value (entree + rice + soup < $10)

Are there any Chinese peeps here that can actually vouch this claim? Haven’t had great Chinese food in ctown since the 90’s. It’s all in the SGV.

I dunno. Did they film Rush Hour at that restaurant? I don’t think so. Foo Chow wins for that reason alone.
