12$ for a roadside meal in thailand?

Hua Hin is a popular spot for affluent local Thais. Even still, that entire meal with beer would’ve been less than 200 baht at the most 10 years ago. Som Tum was at MOST 30baht and that would’ve been insane. I’m not pointing any of this out to say you got ripped off or whatever, just that things have clearly since I have been gone, or you might’ve gotten tourist prices, which if you were happy with it is best for everybody. If you are happy with the price, it might’ve made that restaurants day. It is a win win. But my guess is farang and Thai prices at that street stall are not “same same” and that is jing jing loi percent. That street chicken that they chop up through the bone with a gigantic cleaver is one of the things I miss most about Thai food. The fried chicken is exceptional too. Chicken is also so much different in Thailand, maybe bc it is fresh, but the chickens look a lot different too;likely another breed, like Jidori. Eggs were better too. Hope you had fun!

Ahhh,, miss the sounds of Muay Thai arenas and the feeling that I may shit myself at any moment.
pro tip: do not buy laughing gas balloons in khaosan road.. it’s not COVID safe and really not laughing gas.
