Destroyer was just okay, for the price and hype expected it to be better. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing? All the plates look gorgeous.

Yeah I don’t get this place either

To me it looks like a piece of burnt french toast with a bowl of orange slices on the side, and a fried chicken cutlet with some greens thrown beside it. Doesn’t seem like anything special at all.

We tried it twice and won’t a third time. Found it looks instagram ready but not tasty

The smoked black fish is fire. It has yogurts and nuts. Also the dish with the charred cabbage I think was really good but I only tried a little of it I didn’t order. Also the chocolate financier was really delicious.

I enjoy Destroyer honestly.

toast usually isn’t charred as such, but i love this dish along with the rice porridge, the onion tart, and the forbidden berries! they’ve all been consistent and tasty on any visit, imo. agree the schnitzel is not impressive.
bloodredyouth
None of that looks appetizing.

Who’s hyping it? This is the least talked about restaurant in LA, and it always gets mixed reviews when it is.

They portions alone are not promising

A metaphor for a lot of people you meet in LA: beautiful presentation with little substance.

One of my favorite spots in LA. Prices have crept up over the years—it used to be such bang for your buck quality—but I still crave it. Tasty, fresh, unique flavors/presentations, and doesn’t leave you asking, “What have I done to myself?” at the end of the meal.
I haven’t had the French toast (and your photo doesn’t look exciting), and wasn’t crazy for the ciabatta, but the beef tartare is a must-order for me and has luckily stuck around throughout the menu revamps. I also enjoy the chickpea dish (and admittedly the chicken schnitzel that you weren’t a fan of).

I love the porridge. I said in an earlier comment it’s just so damn expensive.

Yeah that place sucks, particularly for that price point. I’m honestly shocked it is still in business. The last time I was there one of the cooks was going back and forth checking his phone and plating food with his unwashed hands. And that chicken dish was terrible. The chicken was under-seasoned, dry, and tough. The kale was under-dressed and not a pleasant compliment to the chicken. Just overall terrible meal.

I have found the perfect place to tell this story…saw David Sedaris at The Theatre at Ace Hotel last night. Before it started, I noticed that Jordan Kahn was in the audience. Out of nowhere Sedaris mentions Destroyer and the crazy porridge with a hidden poached egg he had (and apparently enjoyed). And how amazing Meteora is. We naturally assumed some sort of connection. Then we found ourselves right in the aisle with Kahn while exiting so we asked about it. He has *zero* connection to Sedaris and it was a complete surprise to him.
So – strange coincidences can happen and *some* people do like Destroyer 😉
