  1. Foe those of us who do not have a drill or soldering iron, I used a hot glue gun, worked just fine.

  2. Thank you so much. Great ideas. I’m having a small raised garden this year thanks to you.

  3. This is so great! I took a composting class & we did this same thing on a larger scale. They called it lasagna gardening, & used cardboard for the base layer, then twigs & branches, then the yard trimmings, shredded paper, then compost/soil. In a rectangular shape, then planted right into the top. Love your compact version!! Thanks for the great video 🌱💚

  4. Fantastic information. Mind you, in 2 years since this video was made, I notice that prices of such totes have doubled. But in reality, these are still way cheaper than fancy ones.

  5. Moringa trees like hot weather and crappy soil mulch and water once a week. They are native to India you can also buy water catchers

  6. Years ago we raised a large garden but now years later the price of food is so high and money doesn’t go as far and I’m much older I’m planting in small containers but may start with the totes. Thanks for your great ideas.

  7. thank you for the idea me and my sister had a big argument that I can't grow watermelon 🍉 I end up with 19 pieces of thank you ❤

  8. I used 6 of those Heavy Duty Totes with 75% soil, it lasted from March 2020 till May 2021 in MAUI's weather!!

It became brittle and cracked so easily and it ALL FELL APART, IT WAS A BLOODY MESS, EVEN MY 5-GALLON BUCKETS BROKE APART 2 MONTHS AFTER!!!

It took me about 6 days and 40 hours transplanting EVERYTHING into the ground!!!!

In comparison, ALL of my plants that are in GARDEN POTTERS THAT ARE MADE FOR HOLDING SOILDIRT WHICH IS ABOUT 9 YEARS OLD….IS STILL IN GREAT SHAPE!!

  9. My question is how many tomatoes can I put in one 18gal tote? Do I put holes all the way around the tote or just on one side and one long side and just catch excess water at one corner of the tote?im going to put most of them in chairs so my back doesn’t hurt bad..maybe potatoes I’ll put on the ground..I just read about wicking containers.have u ever done those and what your thoughts ?.I’m excited to get started..my husband has been debating on raised beds but he hasn’t made a dicesion so I’m doing what u have showed!!! Thank u thank u thank u..

  10. I watched this video two years ago and ran out to buy 2 totes on the same day to try out and since then, I grew peas, tomatoes, and squashes (squash borers are a pain, folks), now I have 4 totes of garlic plants growing on my deck from winter. I want to try growing potatoes next. It's such a fun, easy, and manageable method. Thank you, Robby, for sharing your great videos.

  11. I was thinking about doing this in my yard and I just found your video! Thank you for confirming that this is a method that can and will work! God Bless!

  12. Plastic leaches into the soil. You’re eating it. Just be aware. Same thing using railroad ties. The oil leaches into the food.

  13. Only thing I worry about with this method is chemicals from the plastic leeching into the soil and being absorbed by the plants.

  14. These are not UV rated and will end up turning to even more landfill microplastics that take hundreds of years to actually decompose. I'm all about reduce/reuse, but don't go buy new ones for this.

  15. Totes are much more than $5 here in Missouri. So are the vinyl chairs.

  16. I just love your ideas and enthusiasm. I have a question you might know something about. 1. If starting seedlings inside and there's not enough direct light and no electricity for grow lights, would a car shade placed near the grow trays help reflect the sun onto the seedlings and help them grow?
