I was concerned when visiting Turkey to eat these. I didn’t want to get food poisoning. Anthony Bourdain always said to avoid mussels unless you are in the kitchen picking them out. I just thought these are on the street, who knows when they were cooked or no refrigeration, some guy just has them on the corner hawking them. Well I tried one. Then I ate a dozen. Then every night we would eat dozens of them. They were FUCKING amazing. Never got sick. Absolutely one of the best snacks in Istanbul especially drunk after the bars.

Never had muscles or clams, what do they taste like?
Guessing it’s buttery, sea salty like lobster but more viscous?

I love these! We always got them after leaving the ferry, from the same man for many years. One of my favorite treats from Istanbul.
