I’m from a Germantown in the us. Even our annual celebration of brats features more bread than actual brat with your meal. This is how it should be! Great post!

The Christmas markets in Berlin haunt my dreams. The food and meats there were SO good

i would say its good quality but not alot of options

That’s Turkish food. Mixing cultures is always good. For food or everything else.

Berlin food is amazing! I’m pretty sure the Doner Box is a rip off of the Australian Halal Snack Pack.

I live in Berlin and I have to say compared to Asia and Italy I really disagree. I enjoy döner as much as the next man, don’t get me wrong, but a lot of the other stuff I think is above average at best.

Currywurst is one of my all time favourite foods

Can confirm Berlin has the best kebab in the world.

  10. You should try Asia next if you haven’t already! Their street food is honestly next level. Not trying to say Germany wasn’t any good, but it’s different.

You need explore more countries. I am confident you will change the opinions of Germany having some of the best street foods.

  12. I’m vegetarian. I was afraid Germany wouldn’t have a lot of options but I was so wrong.

You think German food is all sausages – wrong. I’d go into a typical restaurant or beer house and tell them my dietary restrictions. Everyone was very understanding. Out comes a huge platter of bread, cheese, sauerkraut, all kinds of potatoes, grilled veggies etc. Stew made with beans sometimes. And let me tell you, no one does bread better than ze Germans. A big hunk of bread, mustard, a stein of beer, its heaven.

By comparison, France is a snobby over-hyped food desert where they rest on their undeserved reputation as one of the great cuisines. Its also one of the most vegetarian unfriendly places. I had a horrible time finding something decent.

When I was a student, I would walk from the train station in Leipzig to the American consulate library, and pass this sausage cart. Best bratwurst and crusty roll in Germany.

I also ate quite a few sketchy currywurst in train stations, imbiss stands, etc. It was cheap and good. And yes, Germany was where I first had Turkish food.

I also fondly remember the Christmas markets, with the Glühwein and dessert crepes.
