Bari Foods Italian, extra peppers (mild). I know there are many great subs in this city, but Bari has my heart.

I love that i can also buy some groceries while I’m there. I love their huge tubs of olive oil, pasta, and frozen ravioli.

Bari has the best Italian sandwich in the city. Love their meatball sandwich as well.

If you haven’t been there it’s definitely worth the trip

Don’t forget the barese sausage… wow the seasoning and herbs, grill that bad boy and enjoy!

Bari rules. Meatball is/was great too. Been a while since I got wither

That looks awful. 5 inches of average bread with 3 slices of meat. Chicago has poor Italian deli sandwiches compared to the East coast.

this photo doesn’t do the sandwich any justice

    No photograph could

the freshness of the bread and meat, the crisp lettuce and moist tomato

    its not an Instagram moment

it feels very blue collar until that first taste of encased pork splashes all over your tongue

How’s the roof of your mouth? Like you chewed glass? It’s a good sandwich, but the first three times I got sandwiches from there the food of my mouth was never the same.. I’d much rather a Vinnies special or a D’Amato’s meatball sub

Only place in the city I can find scamorza cheese

That pic is trash but they do have the best damn subs in the city. I love that place.

Bari is the source of a long-standing inside joke amongst my friends and I. Like 10 years ago we went and grabbed a few Italian sammies from there. We struggled to find a good spot nearby to eat them, so we found a nice curb and went to town. Some middle aged women walked past and noted how good our sandwiches looked- and asked where they were from. Caught in the ecstasy of the sandwich, all I could do is bark out “BARI” between bites. As my friends tell the story, it was accompanied by a spray of crumbs and sandwich chunks (which didn’t actually happen). Now whenever someone asks one of us where we got X or Y sandwich, someone yells “BAAARI” regardless of the real answer.

They don’t use D’Amato’s bread. Story was there was some dispute over that, and that’s when/why D’amatos started selling sandwiches in competition which they never did for years before.

Bari used to be my favorite until I tried JP Graziano’s.

I went here and had the Italian beef and it blew my mind. I’ll be going back next time I’m in Chicago to try more.

    1) the tuna is greatly under appreciated. homemade with olive oil and vinegar not mayo.

    2) they do a great job with sandwich trays! always a hit and very affordable!

This reminds me that I miss Fiore’s Delicatessen at Erie and Oakley (closed permanently).

You lucky f¥€{er. I used to work close by and that sandwich made my day. I can’t get it now and I miss it.

How does Bari compare to Fontano’s or Nonna’s?
