I recently traveled to the USA and bought this snack for my hikes which I really liked. While Wal-Mart does not exist where I live, I can at least create the mix myself. I was able to find all the ingredients, but I have no information of the composition of the mix. Does anyone know approx. the share of each ingredient, ideally by weight?
**Ingredients:**
* Cranberries
* Pepitas (Pumpkin Seeds)
* Almonds
* Pecans
* Walnuts

Can’t tell you the mix but in the US, ingredients lists are required to be ordered by proportion with starting with the ingredient used in the greatest amount first so that might help you figure it out roughly?
Also, it’s trail mix, I’d just eyeball it based on what you like.
Edit to add: if trail mix isn’t something your familiar with, try adding other stuff too – it’s generally just a mix of any nuts, seeds, and/or dried fruit so there’s lots of room to play. Chocolate chips or chocolate candies can add a nice treat, especially if it’s a snack while hiking or doing something else that’s strenuous.
The Walmart website does have ingredients list:
>DRIED SWEETENED CRANBERRIES (CRANBERRIES, SUGAR, SUNFLOWER OIL), WALNUTS, PEPITAS, ALMONDS, PECANS, VEGETABLE OIL (PEANUT OIL, COTTONSEED OIL, SOYBEAN OIL, AND/OR SUNFLOWER OIL)
Those are required to be in order of how much there is, aka there is more “dried sweetened cranberries” than “walnuts”, and more walnuts than almonds, and the smallest amount of pecans. But with how that’s listed the amount of sugar is somewhat hidden
The nutritional facts says 6g of additional sugar out of each 32g. Like most processed foods in America, add sugar until it tastes right, then add oil
What I would try: find a nut mix that you like. “Pepitas” is pumpkin seeds? Find some dried cranberries, mix sugar with the cranberries maybe chop that up? Mix in the rest of the nuts, tossing with a small drizzle of oil. Then maybe roast in the oven for the amount you’d roast nuts generally
Welcome to the world of mixing sugar with savory flavors that America seems to do more than anyone 😀
Trail mix 🙂 Just an equal proportion of all that you listed should be great. Feel free to add any other nut or dried fruit ingredients as it pleases you
Just throw em in a zip lock bag and call it a day.
It’s just trail mix. Mix however much looks and tastes good to you, it shouldn’t be rocket science.
