My wife and I had these incredible fried fish tacos in Mexico 2 years ago and are looking for some recommendations for spots we can find great fried fish tacos in Chicago. What are you favorites?

I don’t have a favorite yet but I can tell you that I HATED the fish tacos at Tuco & blondie in Lakeview. Bland and mushy.

I don’t typically recommend Big Star in Wicker for anything other than the generous amount of alcohol their margaritas have but I do think they had some of the best deep fried fish tacos. But admittedly i have not been there in a while so I can’t say if their fish tacos are still good or if their margarita pitcher still has a good amount of alcohol.

Edgewater Tacos.

I had the fish tacos from Rockwell’s Neighborhood Grill last week and they were really good. Probably could have split the dish between 2 people because it was very filling.

Spent a lot of time in San Diego as a kid, and weirdly enough Cleos (the 4am soccer bar) is the only spot I’ve found with good San Diego/Tijuana style fish tacos.

Ravinia Brewing in Logandale (Logan Square/Avondale).
Though I did see they got a new chef and the menu is going to be changing, so not sure if that means the tacos are leaving or not.

I hate to say it, but Mixteco actually has real good fish and shrimp tacos. Atleast the one by me in Lakeview does

Not purely Mexican but the fish tacos at Del Seoul are pretty fucking good. Get a couple of those, a Chile shrimp, and some of their fries and you’re in heaven.

It’s practically Lincolnwood, but El Carrito at Petersen/Lincoln has never let me down. Used to have a $9.99 2 tacos + rice & beans lunch special, but I haven’t gone in a while.

Probably in the minority here but I prefer the fish in my tacos not-fried. Primo Chukis does theirs with tilapia cooked on the flat top and onions/cilantro on corn tortillas. Simple preparation that can be doused in salsa and is very delicious.

Edgewater tacos is good. Also surprisingly decent battered fish tacos at the Davis Theater in Lincoln Square (you can get dinner delivered to your seat while watching a movie!).
Not battered, but I also love the fish tacos at South of the Border in Rogers park, with the added attraction of excellent, large, affordable margaritas and late night hours.

It was Taco Joint, but they closed. Big and Littles is good. And Ravinia Brewery on Diversey has good fried fish tacos.

Antique taco’s fish tacos are really interesting. They do this smoked cabbage on them that taste unlike anything I’ve ever had. Def recommend them if you haven’t had them.
