Ice cream at The Social, quickly impressed after a second visit! With summer “unofficially” starting in less than a week, this ice cream sundae was eye & soul candy!

**Who** went: Just myself, as always.

**What** is it: All photos were of their Ice Cream Sundae w/ Marshmallow Fluff, took that option since they ran out of donuts for the day & one of employees convinced me. The ice cream I chose was Ooeyer & Gooeyer (butter cake flavored ice cream w/ caramel), and Root Beer Float, with chocolate sprinkles/jimmies, and hot fudge on top. The marshmallow fluff on bottom was a warm golden strawberry delight made in-shop: vanilla whoopie cookie w/ strawberry powder & strawberry marshmallow fluff, and crushed golden Oreos, quickly heated up in a microwave. The sundae was about 15$ after tax.

**When** was this: Yesterday (Monday, 22 May ‘23) early evening (5:30PM) for a snack after stopping by at Brooklyn Botanic Garden. It’s my second visit, I’ve went about a fortnight ago (Friday, 12 May 2023) after walking around in Prospect Park also after a visit at BBG, and I’ve fasted that day so it was more so food only w/ a small ice cream. This time I was happy to take photos. I know from experience ice cream isn’t always the best food to snap photos of stemming from my job, but when it works, it *works*. Now I know where to go to for ice cream at a small shop, so I can break the trend of relying on Van Leeuwen or Ice Cream House or other chains. Keep the dollars local after all.

**Where** is this: The Social in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn. It’s basically a revamp or new beginning of what Ample Hills Creamery’s story & legacy was in New York City before they went bankrupt, so in this case they will begin once again with pride in their stride in Brooklyn. Although Ample Hills Creamery went on “indefinite closure” around the holidays in 2022 with not a peep almost 5 months later going into 6 if they’ll close for good, or restart flush with new cash or downscaling their operations, The Social has been here to stay since 2021! It offers fun ice cream flavors, ice cream sodas/floats, sundaes, ice cream cakes, and a overall family friendly setting 2-3 blocks from Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Brooklyn Museum, and Prospect Park. There’s even a pinball machine too, but space might be tight or limited if there’s a lot of people both inside and out, I just ate this at the windowsill. **Why** did you go here & snap photos this occasion: Wanted to have ice cream since it’s a favorite treat of mine when it’s getting warmer, but yes, on occasion I do have ice cream when it’s freezing outside in winter. The wait wasn’t too long, took about 5 minutes to prep my order, even for a new timer & I did have some basic info from social media as always. Then spent another 5 minutes scouring for seating indoors and out (bad thing about eating alone: no seats, I digress though) before just settled with eating & taking photos right next to the window. Spent about 20 minutes eating & snapping a few photos before I left for some pizza at Brooklyn’s Homeslice Pizzeria a few blocks away. Given I’ve fasted for a day (didn’t eat anything until the morning before), it was delectable to have some comfort food. 🙂 Also the photos were alright! Hopefully next time I can go, I can enjoy more, even bring a friend along.

**Gear used**: Sony A7R IV camera, 90mm f/2,8 G macro lens, x2 Lume Cube 2,0 lights w/ 2 SmallRig mini tripods as makeshift light stands. Used my Apple Watch as remote shutter, but the photos were decent for something brief.

They’re great. Love their banana icecream with vanilla wafers in it.

Yum! Will have to check it out.

The best ice cream sundae I’ve had in recent memory was the one at Bonnie’s.

Good choices on ice cream! That Ooey Gooey Butter Cake flavor you got is one of their best.
