Finally got around to trying Dave’s, and honestly, not bad. It ain’t Howlin but it was surprisingly good.

Pros: really crunchy, def crunchier than Howlin (even delivered) and the sliders are normal size so you don’t feel like dying afterwards.

Cons (by comparison): slightly less more depth in flavor of seasoning, much less heat (Dave’s medium was like Howlin mild too), Howlin uses brined breast so it’s meatier & juicier, and the slaw and sauce is pretty meh. There wasn’t much slaw and it felt like a mostly cabbage afterthought, not a feature. The sauce was pretty Mayo-forward too.

I think if it was the era of Howlin’s absurd lines, I’d be fine eating Dave’s. But with shorter lines & Postmate options, it’s still Howlin all day. Def glad we tried it tho

I have never had Howling Rays but have enjoyed Dave’s. Pretty delicious.

As someone who too has had both, I agree with this review.

I find Dave’s a bit too salty? Maybe it was the one i tried

Dave’s is very mid imo. Not bad but I’ve been to the stand and few different retail locations and have never understood the hype. Their aggressive expansion is kind of off putting to me too. They have over 50+ locations all over the country now it’s very strange and unnecessary.

Dave’s is solid enough that it hits the spot when you have a hot chicken craving. It’s easy

  8. I tried the one in Long Beach recently.

Not bad, but I prefer Jaybird’s at LBX.
