The southside Dans location is basically a religious site for me

You’re a Dan’s rookie, so we’ll let it slide, but next time the curly fries are the way to go.

  3. Dan’s is what Whataburger would be if Whataburger wasn’t ass.

  4. Surprised they don’t offer a chicken sandwich, given that they have the tenders basket.

  5. You gotta get onion rings or curly fries next time.

I see a lot of comments here denigrating dans. I grew up eating these burgers and still think it’s better than any gourmet burgers in town like hopdoddy or something. I’m curious if the people that don’t like it are gourmet or “thick” burger fans. Personally I prefer fast food style burgers with thin patties and I think dans rules this game. Post recommendations below and I’ll try a few.

Next time get curly fries! And go for the Western burger.

Small double meat double cheese, add hickory sauce, onion rings. Heaven.

Short stop and sandys are some other austin classics you should try

Next time go earlier and get the breakfast tacos. There’s still time in the day for a burger later.

So yum! Definitely snag the curly fries! Also my favorite breakfast in town. For year’s my husband and I would go every weekend for breakfast. The pandemic made that less frequent, but it’s still our favorite!

  12. Original, curly fries and onion rings! The best value in town!

I’m so sad they no longer offer their chicken fried steak sandwich at least location on N Lamar. It was the best ever!

I love Dan’s breakfast tacos… they aren’t your typical “good” breakfast taco. More like an entire quick two egg breakfast on a tortilla but those sumbitches are delicious.

Love Dans! They have great onion rings as well.

Place slams and it’s just unreasonable how great it is compared to other places.

On top of all that, the staff are always wonderful at least in my experience.

I said it in another thread but I’m saying it again because it’s germane: get the curly fries, put some Tabasco in the ketchup and enjoy. That’s gotta be one of my favorite things about Dan’s.

Curly fries for the win! Is we or is we not at Dan’s!?

Ugh I almost went after work, definitely regret not stopping.

  20. Grilled Cheese, add grilled onions, and two burger patties gets you the best freakin patty melt ever.

Also, try Dan’s for breakfast. It’s solid. And cheap.

  21. Breakfast at Dan’s doesn’t get enough love. Their homemade biscuits & sausage gravy is legendary.

We weren’t really supposed to, but if we’d had a really sucky day, no one really wanted to cook . I would have them take Engine 17 to Dan’s on Manchaca and Ben White. Send the rookies in with money and our requests. When we’d get back to the station we’d eat like starving animals. It was SO GOOD.

Dan’s has slapped forever! Bacon chzburger rules, curly fries… Don’t skip on the migas plate or breakfast tacos. Always solid.

Wish they didn’t close at 9pm most nights

My hands down favorite in Austin

The small double burger is so good. All that surface area on double patties for that slightly charred flavor. The big thick burgers are so bland when you compare them to the two thinner patty burgers. Dan’s breakfast and shakes are also pretty kickass too.

Try Sandys next on BartonSprings Rd.. Amazingly good burger.

I’ve met a lot of people that don’t know about Dan’s, but I’ve never met anyone that’s had it that would say it’s not good. And plenty of us think it’s an underrated gem in town. I do miss the chicken fried steak plate, it was a great way to get my fix. And the breakfast tacos are good too. They’ll even throw some pancakes on the flat top for ya.

out of all the things i could say about dans, i’ll just say its better than Top Notch, but its not what it used to be. no more large single burger (double burger now just makes for a soggy mess unless you get the small double), and the onion rings are different. i would even dare to say that mighty fine has dans beat. I MISS FRANS
