I am writing to express my deep frustration and disappointment with the racism and discrimination I recently encountered Bill’s establishment on Third Street in the Austin area. As a Latinx individual, I am tired of the repeated incidents of blatant racism perpetuated by new restaurants such as MLM, Waterloo, and now Bill’s.

Despite being informed of a one-hour wait for a table, my non-Latinx friend was seated within 30 seconds, while I was left waiting. When I confronted the host about this unjust treatment, my concerns were carelessly dismissed.
It is disheartening to see such an established restaurant like Bill’s perpetuate and condone discriminatory practices. The time for change is long overdue. I demand that you take immediate action to implement comprehensive anti-discrimination measures, review and revise your policies to ensure equal treatment for all customers, and foster an inclusive environment that vehemently opposes racism.
I am tired of the pattern of racism and discrimination within new establishments, including Bill’s. It is essential that you address these concerns seriously and make the necessary changes to eradicate racism from your establishment.
I will not hesitate to share my negative experience with others and discourage their support for Bill’s Restaurant and other establishments that perpetuate such repugnant behavior.

Have you asked to speak to a manager or tried messaging them on instagram? given they’re brand spanking new sometimes the service is pretty awful at first and the hosts and workers have absolutely no clue what they’re doing. Out of curiosity why was your friend seated separately from you? Sorry you felt discriminated against though, I know the feeling 🥲.
given that hate crimes ALONE have increased by 35% against Latinos, i am not supprised the burbles emanate to the food industry. franklin’s bbq owners are straigt up gentrifiers. no amount of space and wealth will satisfy the white moderate
Why did your friend go along with being seated without you? That seems super weird.
So was the situation that you asked for a table and got a wait, and then your friend went up and asked separately and was seated right away?
Indeed.
The only possible reason someone got sat before you is because they’re white? Can’t possibly be a simple oversight? Is there any context besides what you’ve presented that points to racism?
Mexican myself, don’t think I’ve experienced this… ever. And I’m suspicious of anyone that refers to themselves as “a Latinx individual.” Goofy phrase invented by tryhard neolibs.
> …such an established restaurant like Bill’s…
Hasn’t it been open for like 2 weeks?
Am I the only one that finds the writing style odd? Seems fishy… posted to several different subs… idk, but my gut tells me this isn’t authentic.
No man, I asked politely about the policy.
Woahhhh a city clearly built by racists and supported by hard core racist who purposefully segregated whites vs colored people is being … le racist??? Color me surprised. Educate yourself, things wont change.
Look I understand my situation is a minuscule element compared to other segregation policies. It is just infuriating that we have no right to a city. I was expelled from the fkn sidewalk.
Well, I would talk to Stewart Jarmon the owner. He went to culinary school at Escuela de Gastronomía Mexicana in Mexico City. It’s a full-time culinary program in Mexico City with an emphasis in language, history, and culture. He quit philanthropy with as a chair on Literary First to attend the school.
A quote from him: “I’ve always had my family’s love of Mexico and Latin America in general. It’s a world away, but it’s closer than flying to New York.” He and his mother share a love of cooking, particularly interior Mexican, and he’s eager to learn more and bring that knowledge back. “If I need to be home in a day, I can be home in a day.” But he won’t just be cooking. “My friend did refer me a really good directory and locator for volunteer opportunities abroad. I probably want to pursue that. To get connected.”
So, yeah let this guy know of how you were perceived to be treated. And FFS, take that Latinx BS out of your mouth. Nothing like saying you’re a fake ass than that. That’s what jackasses from LA with friendship bracelets and a beard wax monthly delivery club call themselves. They all speak perfect college Spanish though.
“Latinx” lol. Never met anyone in my entire life in Latin America or first generation Latinos in the US who refer to themselves as that. Such a bizarre term.
