Made out of 1″ MDF but after subsequent experiments I think 3/4″ or even 1/2″ would do just as well. I replaced the momentary-action grind switch on the Rocky with a regular one and leave it in the on-position, then switch it with the button on the side there.
The hinges I used are kind of stiff so the door on top just kind of stays where it is when I open it. I was lucky enough to find a MDF-cutting service nearby so that it made construction very easy.
Effectiveness is night-and-day. Subjectively I’d say it reduces the noise by 90%. Probably my most successful project.

Considering all of the chaos in the background I’m surprised you even made an effort to make your grinder quieter.

This is awesome!
I bet if you made a V2 with even a thin layer of insulation *and* wood (with the insul. Being within the wood), it would be even better.
Even with sound foam like the other user had

Are you afraid someone waking up and yelling at you?

We need a sound survey of all the major grinders..

Funny this is how flour grinders come in India. In a huge wooden box and inside is just a grinder!!
If I ever get a coffee grinder, this is probably how I’ll dampen it. Or get a hand grinder altogether instead lol.
