Sad I never went there. One of those places you just figure would always be around so there is no urgency.

Gonna miss that red velvet cake… and maple bacon donut… and the smack n cheese…
But I’ll be honest, hadn’t been there in years… even pre-pandemic

Went there once… eh. Was whatever.
Also, “iconic”? 15 years isn’t that long.

You’d think this was the only restaurant in LA by how many posts/articles there are about it. Are they angling for some sympathy donations or what?

That whole area took a massive turn for the worst post covid. I used to live right by this spot and it was just a cool vibe in there. The historic core really went to the dumps after covid. It’s sad to see.

Went there once many moons ago with a friend for brunch. Forgot the name of the dish, but it had pork in it, and I remember it was raw inside. Quietly pointed it out to our server and she quickly replaced it and took it off the bill. I didn’t even ask for it, I just wanted to let her know. Never went back but that made an impression on me.

Sad, but not surprising. I used to live in this neighborhood and now it’s scary just walking around there at night. The city allowed a vibrant, walkable neighborhood to be completely destroyed.

Like a lot of commenters here, I used to live in that neighborhood and it’s definitely skid row adjacent, NOT skid row. Spent thirteen plus years in downtown, but after lockdown and the riots it was never the same.
Used to like the Irish carbombs and biscuits at this joint! But the breakfast itself was meh and overpriced and the owner was always rude… 🤷🏽♀️

Iconic? Campanile iconic. Spago, iconic. Nickel Diner is… I still don’t understand the point of Nickel Diner.
