Chef Hoyoung Kim’s second restaurant after opening Jua that just opened this week! Not a huge menu, but everything tasted great. It is a great option for a nice dinner when you are not looking to stuff yourself with a tasting menu. My favorite dish was the Galbi-Jjim and my wife’s favorite was the buckwheat sesame dessert. Excited to come back to try the other menu items.

I was just there tonight! Yookhwe and the mung bean pancake were amazing. For main, I had the uni sotbap, also fantastic. As a Korean, I was really fascinated by the naengmyun (Pyongyang cold noodles), which my g/f had. There is a lot of variation to the dish depending on what restaurant you go to, but a lot of times with a beef broth mixed with kimchi juice. This version tasted straight beef/pork. Very clean, but you could also taste the nuances of flavor of the meat. Pork had a gaminess that I honestly never fully realized was in pork. I loved it. And the buckwheat ice cream intrigued me. Definitely tasted like buckwheat, sesame seeds, salt and sesame oil. Fantastic combination, and I was amazed that somebody could make ice cream with buckwheat. I’m super glad I was able to go soon after it opened, cuz I’m sure it’ll be very difficult to get a table soon.
Edit to add that the hwe muchim was amazing. Gimme raw fish with gochujang and I’m a happy man. Add several other deep, savory flavors, and I can’t eat it fast enough.
I wanted to go but the marketing turned me off so much that I don’t know if I ever will. The Eater article and interview about this place was so unbelievably condescending and pretentious towards New Yorkers as a whole as well as the decades of restaurateurs and diaspora that have paved the way for their modern success.
How did you get a reservation? I’ve been stalking!
I wanna smoosh that sesame so bad
