Checked out Fast Friends now that they are open, i believe this is their second week in operation.
First just to get it out of the way is the food. I don’t choose breweries based on food, I prefer to rate them on their beer but it is Austin food after all. We ordered the Szechuan pretzel bites, kale cesar wrap, and the verde pizza. All the food tasted great but not necessarily a great value. At $14 the pretzel bites were way pricy for what you got, although the mustard was deliciously spicy, the cesar wrap ending up being $18 after adding chicken. They just put 1 small breast in it and cut it in half and when my gf went to ask for more cesar dressing for it because it was a little dry they said it would have to be ordered through the QR code and we’d have to pay the $1 for it. Lastly the Verde pizza, I forgot all what was on it but I enjoyed it. I believe it was $22 and definitely enough to split between two people I didn’t expect it to be as big as it was. Pizza is nice and thin the way I like it with a good crunch. I certainly would not go here for the food and I’d be hesitant to order the food again but none of it was bad, it all tasted fine, I just thought it was way overpriced for what it is. Pizza is the best value for sure but I didn’t like how there was no build your own and the only simple pie is cheese, everything else is a bit more exotic for lack of better words.
The beer I tasted were their hazy IPA, DIPA, West Coast IPA and saison, I was very impressed by the beer. I thought all the beer were quite tasty and enjoyable just as good as any other beer offerings in those categories in town. They’re as little pricy being $7-$8.50 a pop but whatever I enjoyed them and will go back for more. The patio has an upstairs and downstairs and well covered, even in the middle of the day heat I had no problem sitting and enjoying my time sipping on beer. They have a lot of potential with what they can do with the outdoor space and with a little more effort it could be one of if not the best brewery hangout spots in town.

I went a couple weekends ago. Beer was fine. The food menu was limited given they just opened up and it was a weird time in the afternoon.
I hope they compensate their employees well because there’s a zero percent chance I tip on food that I have to order through a QR code and then pick up myself at the counter. This model sucks and it blows my mind new places are going for it.

Pizza looks good. Beer was just fine. It sounds like it is part of a much larger venture. They mentioned their goal was to build a hotel…

If you’ve been, how would you rate it vs Pinthouse in terms of food, value, and beer?

I just visited last week.enjoued their beers and the pizza was decent. They are still working on building out the downstairs. The back deck and outdoor space was nice. But damn, carrying the pizza down the steep steps on the raiser and a metal plate was tough.

I went last weekend with my wife. The food and beers were too pricey. We got the pizza and two beers and spent close to 40 bucks. The automatic tip is ridiculous. The pizza was terrible and the beers were ok. Probably not going back.

Do any breweries have happy hours nowadays? Pinthouse used to have great one, $2 off PH beers 4pm-6pm. I wouldn’t mind checking Fast Friends out, but it’s a tough sell at $7-$8 per beer, and with most new breweries seems like the beer is never that good at first and has to be tweaked over time.
