  1. Thanks for the advice! My broad beans are also cropping at the same stage as yours. When are they normally ready to harvest and how can we tell?
First time growing them this year.
    Thanks

  2. When are peas ready to harvest and how can we tell? First time growing peas this year as well.

Please make a short video of you harvesting peas and broad beans.
    Thank you

  3. It's so funny for an Australian to watch an Englishman watering his 1/4 acre garden with 2 watering cans filled from a 200 litrre drum!!!

  4. Finally raining here in South Central Pennsylvania, Lancaster County zone 6B. We have endured drought conditions & last week really bad smoke from the Canadian wildfires. Thank goodness things are taking a turn for the better!

  5. It's melons and tomatoes that confuse me, I know over watering causes splitting, but when do you slow down and once you slow down, if you let them go dry then soak, won't that be worse for splitting?

  6. I have to have a straw mulch or grass clippings to keep the soils cool here. I water 1x per week otherwise it would be daily without some type of ground cover

  7. Are you aware that others are using your name in their videos to attract viewers?…..right now we have too much rain in this neck of the woods….but this to will pass…😂😂

  8. Please tell me what kind of watering cans you have, I keep getting stupid ones that spill over the top or don't come out the spout evenly. I need the ones you use!

  9. Plants and learning what they need. I diagnose mine too. Rain here is a sprinkle. Garden is lush and green. We invested in a rain barrel few years ago connected to our rain gutter. Last year it ran dry.

  10. Thanks for the Turkish subtitle, Charles, my potatoes are blooming, I'll water them twice a week, so I have 🤗🤗🤗

  11. When you say hose do you use tap water to water? I have been spending lots of the filing buckets with tap water then leaving for at least half an hour so the chlorine etc evaporates before watering so wondering if it’s necessary or not

  12. 2 potato questions:
1 Do i remove the flowers or not?
2 i have read that you should water in the last growing weeks for a better crop/bigger potatoes. What is your opinion?
I grow them in carton boxes. And am really pleased how they are thriving.

  13. My heritage tomatoes don't like the leaves to be watered particularly in sunlight

  14. Charles you are the best of the best! Love you for your hard work and knowledge/life experience you share ♥️😘

  15. We haven't had rain here in the Netherlands for a full month and it's been 30 degrees for many days now. Right now, I have to water my rooftop raised beds almost daily.

  16. ‘Parsnips look after themselves’. Just what I wanted to hear! One less thing to water phew 😀

  17. Why the bleached out filter? Especially when you can see a microsecond of footage with better contrast at the start.

  18. Not in Perth in summer, it’s hot, dry and windy and the moisture gets sucked out of the compost. So much so that we have to put a heavy layer of mulch on. Even then, we water with sprinklers 2 x week and hand water in between

  19. In Central Florida, USA near Disney World it’s getting to be 90 F daily. I water tomatoes, eggplants, squash, etc. every day. Yes there is mulch.

  20. You mention it’s ok to water in bright sunlight, presumably you still recommend late in the day when the temp has cooled, to minimise evaporation?

  21. It’s funny how that wife’s tale still survives today saying if you water in full sun, it will magnify the sun through the droplets and burn your lawn. I think it’s total baloney when waters on your lawn, it evaporates and cools your lawn.

  22. Life changing advice haha im enjoying spreading the word about watering in the sunlight. Its always been a nightmare in the summer having to wait until the evening to head to the allotment to water. Thanks Charles

  23. I am growing broadbeans for the very first time and the poor things looked so sad during our week of 90 °f temps in may. But its cooled down and they are finally setting pods! I figured the blooms dont set in high heat.
But i made sure to really give them the water during the heat as they were just fainting in the heat along with my snow peas and sugar anap peas.
I cant wait to try the broad beans, I've never had them and after watching home garden videos about them i just kinda get excited all over again.
I do occasionally see black aphids but a good squirt from the hose takes care of them.

  24. How often are you watering tomatoes/cucumbers in this June heatwave in the UK? So much conflicting advice online ranging from twice daily to every couple of days!

  25. Good info, thank you. I was wondering about my potatoes, they were looking rather saggy after flowering. They must need water!

  26. Aww thank you Charles the myths about watering in full Sunshine I always check durning the day if something needs a drink I hand water sometimes the hose We do have similar climates Im in PNW Washington 😊
