My number 1 is East Court Mikes
Above $10 cash only. Roast pork is usually tender and bbq pork is the juiciest I’ve ever had, but a bit on the sweet side (which sometimes I enjoy). Topping the food off with ginger scallion sauce is an amazing touch that nowhere else I see does this. Vegetables are meh but very “cing (清)” if you’re into that.

My number 2 is Ho Ho BBQ. $6 CASH EXACTLY(how is it so cheap) Roast pork and BBQ pork are pretty good. Portions are smaller. Comes with water, soup, or I think a soy milk? In the same plaza has Kong Kee and New Sun. I’d say they are probably similar (like $6), but when I got them a couple of times, they were just leaner. I know it’s just luck of the draw on which part of the pig you get sometimes but that’s all I can judge.

I also went to Grandeur Palace. Quality wise probably similar to Ho Ho(except the BBQ pork always seems drier) Portions are larger cost is over $10. I only go here because Mike’s is closed Wednesdays.

I’ve also had decent experiences in Sam May and some really dry BBQ Pork at Lung Tung.

Not in GTA but First Markham place has the famous Extra BBQ House and HKS BBQ. I find them very similar to Mike’s East Court. I favour the yellow one a bit over the red store.

note: You can’t get the juiciest cut every time, sometimes you have bad luck and just get the lean part. I saw a very comprehensive Cantonese video once where the guy went out and pre-ordered neck which is the juiciest part.

I always tell east court half the amount I really want cause the guy always doubles what I ask for… Have you tried sam woo? I think I like them better.

Markham is indeed in GTA (I’m guessing you meant just Toronto).

and here i am testing bbq pork by ordering the lean bits

if it’s still juicy, you’ve found a winner. unless it tastes bad, but you can’t win at everything lol

BBQ pork and roast pork, the ideal combination! The ginger and scallion is mostly for the chicken, but you can easily put away a full box of plain rice with it.

I also suggest you accompany your box with fried tofu with soy sauce.

Love these reviews. Any reviews on roast duck?

    Thanks/u/EICONTRACT.

Went to East Court and Mike’s yesterday based on your recommendation, was fantastic. Ended up buying with my eyes and got a few meals worth but no complaints 😁
